MALAY ABANG TOLD TO LEARN CHINESE BECAUSE PRC WAITRESS SPOKE NO ENGLISH

Went to a coffeeshop in Tuas, bought a can of coke zero an a bread ask the lady at the counter how much? And she replied in Chinese, so i told her in English pleased, but she keep repeating in Chinese… At that point a customer come forward and say it is $2.20 so i give her another $2 note. The Chinese lady accepted it but she still scolded me in Chinese. I say why don’t you learn English so that you can easily communicate with your customers, and a man came forward and say why don’t you learn chinese too?

MY EXPERIENCE AS A SAF MALAY COMMANDO IN THE 1990s

I served my NS in 1st Commando Bn and during that time (mid 90s), I was the only Malay in my batch. I had to overcome many challenges then, e.g. no Muslim cookhouse in Hendon camp then, restrictions placed on me, etc. But I managed to survive my NS days with the help of all my Commando buddies, regardless of race. We were a band of brothers.

MENTORING PROGRAMME TO HELP MALAY AND MUSLIM WORKERS TO LEVEL UP

A mentoring programme has been set up for Malay and Muslim workers from low-income families to take on professional, manager and executive (PME) jobs, MP for Marine Parade GRC Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef announced on Thursday. The pilot programme - set up by Mendaki's training arm Sense and funded by Temasek Cares, a charity of Temasek Holdings - aims to help individuals who have been promoted to a PME position or received a pay increase or assumed an expanded portfolio in their current jobs recently, transition smoothly in their new roles.
