SINGAPORE'S PRESS FREEDOM IMPROVED! JUMPS FROM 154 TO 151

Congratulations! Singapore has improved in press freedom by jumping from the 154th to 151st ranking worldwide. This is based on the 2017 World Press Freedom Index collated by Reporters Without Borders.

Singapore is ranked 151 because of our intolerant government and strict censorship. The report described our government as one that will not hesitate to sue others who think otherwise. It said that defamation charges are rather common here and also raised issues with our increasingly strict censorship.

We were placed 154th a year ago and are currently ranked below Ethiopia, Tajikistan and Bangladesh.

Seriously?

CLASSY MALAYSIAN MEDIA TALKS ABT ATHLETES THAT DID'NT WIN GOLD VS SG MEDIA

The difference between how the Malaysian media talks about their athletes that don't win gold medals vs. how the Singaporean media talk about theirs.

Rather embarrassing behavior from the local media, from them chewing out Quah Zheng Wen to this. Regardless of how they do or what media sound bites they don't give you, these athletes represent the country and we should be so proud of them. It wasn't that long ago that we glorified our athletes regardless, but you win just ONE gold medal and suddenly that's the new minimum requirement.

DR CHEE: 154 MEDIA WILL SMEAR ME ON COOLING DAY, DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR TRICKS

But even as I cannot rebut these accusations on cooling off day, the newspapers are free to attack me as they are not bound by the rules of cooling-off days. You can be sure that they will use the opportunity to attack me....Yes, from out of the blue, someone, somewhere will post something about the matter and tomorrow the newspapers will all report it. The purpose is to turn you against me.
Please don't fall for this, my friends.

LOCAL DJ: MALAYS AND INDIANS ARE UNDER-REPRESENTED IN THE MEDIA

Go to town. Ion, 313, Orchard Central, Wisma, Takashimaya - any mall in town. I want you to count how many Malay/Indian men and women featured on the posters. Because it seems to me the 'Singaporean Look' is a skinny Chinese girl with long hair and a big smile! As a young kid growing up in Singapore, I'd never see someone of my skin color rocking ads and headlines unless it's Singapore Idol Season. I couldn't entertain my first ambition of being an actor coz every role (although said open to all races) would go to the man with the Singaporean Look. I do music, I do radio. I'm behind a microphone. If I had a dollar for every person that has come up to me saying "OMG I didn't know you're Indian!" I'd be able to afford a down payment for an HDB flat. In the industry, I've had peers get turned down gigs because they were too "ethic looking. Racial Harmony isn't just about us getting along. It's equal opportunities. Equal chances to shine. I wanna see diversity.

EX-SHUQUN SEC PRINCIPAL SLAMS MEDIA'S BIASED UNFAIR REPORTING OVER SCHOOL BULLYING INCIDENT

I was the principal of ‪#‎shuqunsecondary‬ from 2012 to 2015. From 1 Jan 2016, I will be leaving the education service. I am hoping to pursue further studies. And no, before you ask, I made this decision some time before the "bullying incident" in my school. Many ppl who know the truth of the events in my school have asked me why I did not respond more actively to the various reports on the Internet when the incident happened. My answer - I did not want to feed the ongoing media frenzy and help viral irresponsible articles that were being put out by my comments.
