PARTS OF LARGE TREE FELL ON PARKED VEHICLES AT MARSILING

The Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council said they were alerted to the incident at 5:55 am and immediately sent their horticulture team to ascertain the damage. It was reiterated that no one was injured, as there was no one in any of the vehicles. The Town Council reported that the tree is more than 30 years old, but the last inspection done this month had shown it was healthy.

POLICE ARRESTED MAN WHO BARRICADED HIMSELF IN FLAT WITH LPG

The couple later told the media that the man was the owner of the unit, and had been paranoid recently about being arrested by the police. He had threatened the couple as he felt the couple had betrayed him, by wanting to leave The couple said they decided to move away for good as the man was of unsound mind.

CHEE SOON JUAN WRITES TO PM LEE TO CALL FOR A BY-ELECTION

Singapore Democratic Party's Chee Soon Juan has written to PM Lee to call for a By-Election for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC in light of Mdm Halimah Yacob's resignation. He asked if PM Lee agrees with Mr Chan Chun Sing for previously saying that there will not be a By-Election. If he does not receive a response, he will "proceed to take the necessary steps to rectify the situation".

IF GRASSROOTS ADVISOR CAN REPLACE AN MP, DOES THIS MEAN THEY HAVE EQUAL POWER?

Appointing a Grassroots Advisor in Marsiling instead of calling for a by-election raises very unsettling questions about how the Government recognises the legitimacy and authority of elected MPs. Does this mean that Government agencies will now accord them with as much recognition as elected MPs? Does this mean that these advisors can take on other roles that presumably only MPs can undertake?
