SG telcos find new ways to fleece customers

Recently, we read about how Starhub and Singtel used dubious methods to overcharge customers. Just now, I realised M1 is up to sneaky ways to con us of our money too. My latest M1 bill had 7-8$ of something called voicemail access. When I called them, M1 told me that this was the duration for which people left voice mails for me. I was shocked as I was never told I would be charged for the time people left voicemails for me. If anything, we were told that under our plan, there is free voicemail.

Goodwill gesture well received: M1

Our goodwill gesture, offered during the festive period to allow our customers to connect with their friends and families, was well received. Voice traffic increased by more than 10 per cent, and messaging, both SMS and MMS, increased by more than 20 per cent, compared to the previous Sunday. We assure our customers that we take a serious view of the incident.

M1 “GENEROUSLY” OFFERS 1 SUNDAY OF FREE SERVICES TO CUSTOMERS AFFECTED BY THE OUTAGE TODAY

Initial investigations by the telco revealed that a software issue had stopped customers from being able to register on the mobile network. They said that they take the issue "very seriously" and are taking extra steps to do a comprehensive investigation. As a indication of their good will, M1 said they are giving all M1 subscribers free local calls, SMSs and MMSs for the whole of this Sunday.

M1 mobile network disruption: SMS, calls affected

M1 confirmed a disruption to its mobile phone network this morning (Feb 4), which saw network subscribers in various parts of Singapore unable to send SMSes or make calls via their M1 lines. "Some of our customers may be experiencing difficulties sending text messages or making voice calls. We are currently rectifying the issue and apologise for the inconvenience," the telco stated on its Facebook page at about 8.30am.
