NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOR 4 DAYS STRAIGHT, THANKS TO M1!

My home fibre broadband got disconnected last Friday for no apparent reason and has been down since. This is the 3rd time i have had a prolonged disconnection under M1 since i switched to them from Singtel (big fking mistake) roughly one year ago. Best part is I didnt have any such issues with Singtel under their ADSL broadband in my 10 over years with them. The last time this happened there was absolutely NO follow up at all and they only agreed to waive my bill after I angry-emailed them. They obviously didnt bother looking into the cause of the problem since, and here I am, using a public library's wifi typing this out on my small little handphone screen.

S’PORE MOVIE DOWNLOADERS RECEIVE LAWYER LETTER DEMANDING S$10,000 DAMAGES PER ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD

I read disturbing news online saying that a local law firm has been going around sending letters of demand to people who illegally downloaded the Hollywood film Dallas Buyers Club. This is a common practice known as Torrenting. Based on letters already received by some Singaporeans, the lawyer letter demands that these offenders pay up to S$10,000 for each infringement of copyright. And if you are a multiple offender, you may have to pay up to S$200,000 in copyright damages or even more

PAY MORE WHEN RENEWING SINGTEL MOBILE CONTRACT

SingTel mobile users who renew their contracts will pay $3 more for their monthly subscriptions, making their mobile plans the most expensive here. StarHub’s bid to charge for 4G blocked

In a statement yesterday, the IDA said its investigations found that there was still “significant” confusion among consumers about the plans they signed up for. This is despite the three telcos — M1, SingTel and StarHub — positioning 4G services as value-added services in their promotional materials and service terms and conditions. Although “all the necessary notifications are captured in writing in one form or another” by the three telcos, there is room for improvement at the point of sale, noted Mr Leong. “We’ll be working on improving and tightening those procedures at the point of sale to ensure consumers are fully aware and we’ll make it a regulatory requirement,” he said on the programme. Noting that the Telecoms Competition Code requires telcos to communicate key terms and conditions to customers prior to service sign-up, the IDA said in its statement: “Telecoms operators should not change prices mid-way that affect customers with minimum term contracts, if they were not clear to customers upfront what those price changes might be.

MDA suggests ways to raise awareness of ISPs’ parental control tools

The Media Development Authority (MDA) has proposed enhancements to parental control tools offered by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to raises awareness of this service among parents. Since its introduction in 2012, the service has seen a “low” take-up rate of slightly over 100,000, said Ms Koh Li-Net, Chief Executive Officer of MDA. This is despite ISPs being required to inform and offer the controls to consumers at point of subscription or renewal.
