I refer to the disgusting actions of TODAY newspaper last week, which maliciously misquoted the honourable Mr Low Thia Khiang's parliamentary tribute speech to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. This sort of behaviour from TODAY is not surprising. Singapore's government-controlled media is famous throughout the world for having poor reporting standards and no journalistic integrity. I highly encourage Mr Low Thia Khiang to take legal action against Walter Fernandez and his team of unprofessional pro-PAP reporters for defaming him and causing grave damage to him and the image of the Workers' Party.

The success arose not just from Mr Lee's extraordinary fighting spirit and tenacity, but also from his sincerity. However, I don’t think that the PAP one party rule is the key to Singapore's fast economic development, strong social cohesion and unitedness. This is because many Singaporeans were sacrificed during the process of nation building and policy making and our society has paid a price for it.

On behalf of the Workers’ Party, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Mr Lee was Singapore’s first Prime Minister, heading the Government for over three decades and thereafter serving another 21 years in the Cabinet as Senior Minister and Minister Mentor. He led Singapore with a group of like-minded individuals through our tumultuous early years of nationhood, including a difficult merger with Malaysia and subsequent independence in 1965.

Minister of State for National Development Desmond Lee has said he is taken aback with Workers' Party chief Low Thia Khiang's remarks to the media that residents of his Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council need not worry about its poor performance in service and conservancy charges (S&CC) arrears management and corporate governance. The Workers' Party-managed town council (TC) was the only one out of 16 which was banded "red" in the recently released Town Council Management Report.

Why does the election official call out my name and voter number at the polling station before giving me the ballot paper? I find it unsettling. This is required under the Parliament Elections Act. Calling out you name and number enables the representatives of political parties at the polling station to verify and cross out your name on their registers. This is a transparent process to help both the ruling and opposition parties in 2 ways – to check against double-voting by any voter, and to tally the total number of votes and the number of ballot papers issued out at the close of voting.

WORKERS' Party (WP) MP Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap supports the Wear White campaign that opposes homosexuality and the gay rights Pink Dot event. The photos, posted online, have prompted talk about whether his stand represents the WP's position on homosexuality. Before I start, I must state that it is really regrettable that I have to criticize Mr. Low Thia Khiang in this post. I always have high regards of him and even regarded him as my First Teacher for my initiation into Singapore Opposition Politics. Even though we may have differences in opinions but I have always given him the respect of a teacher or "shifu" to me. However, this NMP issue is just blatantly against the very fundamental principles of Democracy and Democratic Electoral Process. It is just too important to me as a matter of principles, to state categorically that even my "shifu" is just obviously wrong to be involved in this undemocratic process of selecting NMP.

THE Workers' Party (WP) has set up a charity fund to run community programmes like financial aid, food distribution and health screenings. The WP Community Fund (WPCF) is structured like the PAP Community Foundation (PCF), the ruling party's charity arm. The WPCF was registered as a company limited by guarantee in January this year and accepted by the authorities as a charity in February.

"Politicians must be aware of what kind of political culture we are building" through the style of political engagement here, said the Workers' Party leader. He said if people continue to support a political party that uses "high-handed" tactics against its political opponents, a "bullying" political culture is being endorsed. Mr Low also cautioned against building a self-serving political culture.
