FOREIGN MANAGERS AT THE COFFEE BEAN DISCRIMINATE AGAINST LOCAL EMPLOYEES!

I have been working at The Coffee Bean as a full time barista with no clear advancement opportunities and would like to relate to all readers the unfairness of being a Singaporean worker at this place. Coffee Bean has a disproportional number of foreign and local managerial management employees and in the end, we have to put up with being lorded over by Malaysian and Filipina managers who are just lazy on the phone all the time and ride on the good work of their Singaporean collies. And these foreign managers who choose the off days for us pick only the best timings for themselves like Sundays as the Filipina managers claimed they need to go church which we all know is bull as that is the time they all gather with their comrades!

HIGH RENTAL AND LABOUR COSTS ARE KILLING OFF LOCAL BUSINESSES

It is with much exasperation that I am penning down this note and I hope you can help share with all fellow readers, the predicaments local start ups like us face not just both in rental and labor costs but also the near inability to obtain any support from MTI or EDB! I am running a local bubble tea chain which has been shrinking due to my immense difficulties in recruiting suitable local staff as after deduction of the hefty rental superimposed by Capitaland and material costs, I can only afford to pay a Singaporean no more than $1250 for a 5 day work week. I personally would love to hire Singaporeans first and I hope our honorable WP MPs like Mr LTK whose speeches I follow and is coincidentally a businessman himself, can give our desperate cries an adornment motion in Parliament as we cannot expect the SCCCI NMP to be doing anything without prior permission from his taskmasters!

HOW MY EX-COMPANY REPLACED S’POREANS WITH INCOMPETENT FOREIGN TALENTS

I worked in a financial futures company sometime in 2007. When I started with the company, the managing director, heads of department, back office managers were almost all local citizens with a few PRs occupying these posts. The staff were mainly Singapureans with a few Malaysians and Indonesians due to language ability as the customer base of the company spanned the ASEAN region. About 2 years later, the managing director was replaced by an Indian from Mumbai. As the months passed, all the local heads of department were replaced one by one by Australians and Britons.
