Apart from the late Lee Kuan Yew, the other thing that’s dead in this entire kerfuffle is irony: 1. The siblings, in openly attacking their brother, claim to be protecting their father’s legacy against Lee Hsien Loong’s authoritarian ways, with apparently zero awareness that the system they now fear actually is their father’s legacy. 2. This entire thing is blowing up on Facebook of all places because the two younger Lees don’t trust the mainstream media since they are seen as being under the government’s thumb – precisely the situation their papa manufactured with the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act and other legislation and restrictions.

In life, things can go either way when one faces difficulties. Lee had demonstrated that fate and crisis before you that appeared to be insurmountable does not equate to one’s destiny. This is the legacy that is left, where 30% of Singaporeans live in poverty and where many Singaporeans still do not earn enough to have a basic standard of living, and where many elderly Singaporeans cannot retire because they were not allowed to save enough inside their CPF pension funds, and where many choose to die because they cannot afford to pay for healthcare, no matter how pretty the hospitals can look.
