KIND ELDERLY SNACK BAR AUNTIE OFFERED “FREE” DRINKS TO TKPS VOLUNTEERS

Our order was very complicated, with fourteen drinks on it. I offhandedly mentioned that this was for the volunteers at TKPS, to explain why we were ordering so much. Once the elderly auntie who ran the bar prepared our drinks, she declared them all free of charge. My friend and I balked at the offer, insisting that she accept the $50 that we had brought as a token if not payment. Instead, the auntie took only $6, calling it a lucky number. $6 for at least $20 worth of drinks.

NOT ALL DOCTORS ARE GREEDY & HEARTLESS

My husband, the sole breadwinner in the family, passed away unexpectedly when I was into my seventh month of pregnancy. It was a devastating period for my seven-year-old daughter and me. Upon knowing our situation, my gynaecologist, Dr Adrian B. Woodworth from Thomson Women’s Clinic, waived his prescription and caesarean charges. He also approached the anaesthetist, Dr Yvonne Lim, and paediatrician, Dr Lillian Lim, and they also waived their charges before my delivery date, to ease my financial burden. This episode goes to show that not all private-sector doctors and hospitals are profit-driven.

POLY STUDENT GIVES OUT HONGBAOS TO CONSTRUCTION WORKERS IN KIND GESTURE

On Wednesday (Feb 12), I went to a construction site behind Plaza Singapura and gave 20 workers there a $5 hongbao, using the money I got from hongbaos given to me during Chinese New Year. I was pretty nervous at first, as I feared they may have taken my gesture the wrong way but I'm glad things worked out okay. We may have shared little in words, but the smile on their faces showed they understood and appreciated the gesture.I did that to show them that we too appreciate them for their hard work.
