Singapore People's Party (SPP) politician Khan Osman Sulaiman uploaded an email he received from Sembawang Community Club. The screenshot of this email showed a list of available jobs for four companies: Beijing 101, Jollibee, Royal T Group and Royal Security. Based on the available job positions, Osman Sulaiman guessed the bulk of these 100,000 jobs offered to Singaporeans will be 90% blue collar jobs while S Pass or E Pass holders will probably get the white collar jobs.

“We are seeing more younger people, those in their 50s instead of their 60s and 70s, camping at Starbucks, McDonald’s, Internet and gaming cafes, libraries and other urban spaces, as these are places where people hang out and it is not immediately obvious that they are homeless,” he added.”

I refer to the article “Spring Singapore funds projects that promise 21,400 jobs” (Straits Times, Jan 26). It states that “When fully realised, these projects are expected to crank out 21,400 new skilled jobs and contribute $7.8 billion in value-add to the economy.

A pinoy stood up to a Singaporean and told him that it is not the fault of foreigners that Singaporeans cannot find jobs. He did not care that Singaporeans have to serve NS and he laughed off the suggestion that foreigners should serve too.

I read Josephine Teo's recent Facebook post of her son serving NS with mixed feelings. On one hand, I am proud that I am part of a system where the young men of our country can come together, regardless of race, and serve the country.

When employers have already decided to employ foreigners, they will simply wait out the mandatory 14 days where a job has to be posted on Jobsbank. Once the jobsbank applicaton expires, they will proceed to submit an EP application for their pre-selected "Foreign Talents" to come on board.

With the recent news that our security firm, Certis Cisco will be employing foreign talents from Taiwan, I am appalled and unhappy with it, talking about Certis, they handle many sensitive and confidential assignments that shouldn't be revealed to others, and with the fact that they are employing foreigners, aren't they putting our country's security at sake and our government didn't step up to say anything about it?

How to you compete with foreigners when employers can save as much as 18 per cent of wages, because foreign workers do not have to make CPF contributions?

Singaporeans should have priority for jobs based in Singapore. This should be actionable and not just some lip service to placate Singaporeans.

Though there is nothing wrong with Singaporean companies hiring foreigners, I was curious why such a blog that does not deal with advanced technology requires the skills of foreigners. Hence, I left a comment on that article. A few people chipped in. One of them is someone by the name of Ian Tan, whom is one of their staff working as a Web Engineer. He made personal attacks at me and accused me of trolling.
