Writing to The Real Singapore in his capacity as SDP Assistant Secretary General, Christopher Ang made claims that my departure from the party was due to poor conduct on social media. Those claims are deceitful and a poor attempt to deflect. Briefly, this is why:

You should not have come out in the public with all these criticisms of your former party. You had spent three years with SDP and based on what you wrote, I guess you did put in significant efforts for the party. Whether those were productive or unproductive efforts, I trust you had put in your best and meant well for SDP. But now, with your public criticisms against the party and its leaders, you “undid” whatever good efforts you had contributed to the party. You are not only damaging the party, you are also hurting yourself badly!

SDP has issued an official response to the recent article JEREMY CHEN: WHY I LEFT THE SINGAPORE DEMOCRATIC PARTY which covered a fairly critical post written by Jeremy Chen, a former SDP member, on why he chose to leave SDP. SDP explained that it was Mr Chen’s Facebook posts which caused SDP to have to take action.

I've been booted out of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) discussion group. These were my last two messages to them. If what I say is false, say it. I've been told by CEC members that CSJ lied. (I had no way of knowing if he did or not otherwise.) If CSJ seeks to punish those that did not cover up his lie, then it says even more about his character. Let's just say, all this is not said lightly. The party has to assert the principles it stands for, or be just another political hack seeking "votes at all costs".

I joined the SDP because it was supposed to stand for rights, democracy and promoting the well-being of Singaporeans. There are many good people in the party, but I'm disappointed by the party leader. As much as he pretends to be a warrior for democracy, and as much as the marketing (combined with the idealism of people such as me) has people fooled, the truth about Chee is much much more sad.

I am a SDP party member who cannot help but disagree with Chee Soon Juan's position that we should just forgive RN, HHH and Co's bad behaviour because "freedom" means having the "freedom to make mistakes". (http://yoursdp.org/news/criticise_if_we_must_but_let_us_also_encourage/2014-09-30-5882) The gist of what he said is that we should let things be, "criticize if we must" and excuse the mistakes. Extremely low weight was placed on responsibility. Holding people responsible for their actions is a must, not something to be done "if we must".

Today's report of a nation-wide bed crunch at public hospitals is a damning indictment of the Singapore healthcare system. A PAP MP has noted that spikes in admissions correlate with the holiday season (as opposed to a spike in illness), but this seasonal effect, given that a track record for it has existed for a long time, should have been corrected for ages ago. Why does overcrowding continue to occur with such severity?
