Four Indians in Singapore were today charged in court with bribing a custom officer and fraudulently claiming Goods and Services Tax tourist refunds. The four Indians along with two Singaporeans were arrested after the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) had identified several suspicious GST refund claims using data analytics on its electronic tourist refund system (eTRS), an official statement said today.

Ms Renjala Balachandran, head of Sinda's Family Service Centre, said 60 per cent of the 1,000 families it helped last year suffered from at least one form of abuse. Five years ago, it was fewer than one in four families. Most cases involve husbands beating wives. Said Mr R. Ganesan, a trained counsellor engaged by Sinda for its roadshows: "There is a sub-culture among Indians. We accept violence as part of daily life and physical abuse as a form of punishment."

I wish I was an Indian National A*Star scholar instead of a Singaporean. If I wasn’t a Singaporean, I wouldn’t have to pay for my own school fees. I also wouldn’t have to apply for a bank loan for my tertiary studies in future like my elder brother did, even though he got 3As and 1B for his A-level results.

The irony is, after having years of daily interactions with the malay workers, I found that most malays, at least among those thousands that i know of, have very high-aiming wants, but does not have the same level of drive to turn them into reality. Those in my companies keep brochures of Ducati motorcycles, they often discuss which one they will buy....or say which house(ruko) in which district they hope to move into in the future...but after years of working they are still in the same position, refusing to accept higher post that comes with more burden( and also much more pay ).

I was at the basement level of Beach Road Hawker Center and wanted to order a cup of sugar cane. The Indian stall operator was not at his stall as he went to send an order to a customer, so I waited in front of his stall. An Indian customer came and waited behind me. What shocked me was that when the Indian stall operator returned, the Indian customer just simply told him in Bangla his order and I was totally ignored. I asked the Indian stall operator why he chose not to take my order when I was in front and the other guy was queueing behind me. He abruptly just told me off…. “What’s the big deal, brother?”

In my experience having worked in IT for fifteen years, Indian ITs have only one advantage, which is that they are cheap. If you are an Indian FT in Singapore and looking for a house on rent, it is highly likely that you won't get one. Most Singaporean landlords don't rent their house to Indians and people from mainland China. According to local media reports, many landlords are open about it. The moment they realize that the tenant is an Indian, they say sorry and slam the door.

Indian national, Jayaraman Kannan, was today sentenced to a 4-month jail sentence by the courts for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a girl on a MRT train at about 9am on Aug 18 last year. 34-year-old Jayaraman, who is a bio-technologist working in Singapore, pleaded guilty to pressing his exposed private parts against a 19-year-old girl while in the train which was travelling from Choa Chu Kang to Bukit Gombak.

Police on Saturday confirmed that a report has been lodged against a Twitter user. It is believed the person - who goes by the Twitter handle “iamclarena” - posted racist remarks on the social networking platform.
