A low-wage worker was shocked to receive a Workfare statement of only $10 in cash and $10 in CPF contribution! Isn't workfare supposed to supplement low income earners? Is $10 enough?

GOVT SCHEME NOT DOING ENOUGH FOR ELDERLY, WHY ARE THEY STILL DOING LABORIOUS WORK?
Activist Gilbert Goh raised problems with the Silver Support Scheme and thinks the Government is not doing enough to help the elderly in Singapore. Why are they still made to work to earn a living? Shouldn't they already be taking a back seat and enjoying themselves?

Our reader warned against living in the new Geylang BTO flats as the area still sees suspicious characters loitering around. He claims that his neighbour's daughter was molested in the vicinity. He thinks the area is not safe for families and expects it to become yet another slum. "I wonder why the government doesn't know about this 2-room and 3-room flat problem. Why not mix it up? Why create slums? If got ethnic quota why don't have an income quota where a flat have all kinds of flats that cater to different stratas?"

Funny, because the calls only come now in the wake of the CAD investigations on the alleged misuse of Club funds in the FAS and Bill Ng saga. These clubhouses have been around for ages, and their presence and the income they generated are not exactly secrets. In fact, many times a football club have indicated that they jackpot machines are actually a steady source of huge income for their clubs to run their operations. Funny, because now the MPs are all making noises, when in fact the could have done so before this become a matter of public interest. Are these MP jumping on the bandwagon to make their presence known, and their roles as MP, relevant? Funny, because at the centre of this storm, was an ex MP and PAP man himself, Zainudin Nordin. He certainly did not voice out for tighter rules on jackpot operations. He, of all people, should know about the existence of the machines. After all, he was the FAS president. He cannot claim ignorance, can he?

I refer to this distasteful post by Westgate. They have come up with an "Ang Pau rate card" where family members are judged based on their income level to determine how much ang bao money they should give. A lot of people have left comments saying that Westgate is encouraging people to be materialistic. A lot of people have also said that ang baos come from the heart and people should not be pressured into giving something beyond their means.

Some years back, a PAP minister said that it was possible to own a flat with a $1k a month income in Singapore. Heck, the media even featured someone who had a 2-room BTO on an $850/month salary.

Women are by and large maternalistic creatures. It may be conscious or subconscious but wanting the best for your offspring often weighs heavily on the minds of women. Income naturally comes into play. Just because your husband is rich doesn't mean your family would be happy. Of course. But having a healthier income means that more doors are open to your children. In all honesty, declaring a desired income for a partner means that the guy has a visible target. Its not an necessarily an impossible task. Compare that with wanting big boobs with skin that remains smooth forever. That is hardly achievable.
