56 year old Malaysian Yam Kok Kong was pronounced dead after collapsing at Johor Bahru's immigration clearance last Thursday. He was riding a bike from Singapore and doing his routine thumbprint scan at the Bangunan Sultan Abu Bakar Customs Immigration and Quarantine Complex when he suddenly collapsed. A Singaporean woman, Irene Clennel, who lived without valid immigration papers with her Scottish husband for 27 years in the UK, has been deported back to Singapore by the UK authorities. Irene had been held in a Scottish detention center since the start of February before being sent back to Singapore on Saturday. She was put into a van and forced into a plane bound for her home country. She did not have access to her lawyers or have the chance to pack any clothes.

In Singapore, the situation is drastically different where anyone can come in on a tourist visa to find a job. There is no onus for employers to prove that a local cannot fill a job, while there are more fake/ unaccredited qualifications that the government would care about given their seeming inaction to this issue. SMEs in Singapore have no incentive to train fresh graduates when they can hire more experienced foreigners from developing countries for 20% less. In summary, PAP's liberal immigration policy is taking away opportunities from our youths which could have worse consequences in the long run.

Do check your passport (all pages), make sure there is no tear marks or else you have high chances that you can't access in to any of other country. I was stuck at immigration half a day just to to get help, most of time the officer will not let you enter their country and will ask you to buy your immediate return ticket.
