Commentary: Singapore Drifting Further Apart From The Ideals Of Our Pledge

If we are indeed serious about combating religious extremism and “nurturing” a multi cultural society, we should begin by allowing people to practice their religion freely, all the while keeping in mind our non religious neighbours instead of suppression that will give rise to all sorts of doubts and conspiracy theories. It will also compel religious minorities into the arms of religious extremists, seeking to convince them on the “evils” of a secular society.

OFFENSIVE GRAFFITI ON MRT HOARDING UNDER POLICE INVESTIGATIONS

Whoever wrote the words "terrorist" on the murals of the unfinished MRT Station at Marine Parade over the picture of a woman in Hijab certainly needs to have his head examined. Such blatant act of anti-Muslim sentiment has no place in a multi racial and multi-religious Singapore. The police are already investigating this vile act of vandalism. LTA indicated that the contractor for the MRT station made a police report on Friday afternoon, soon after this was spotted. It is believed that the word was scrawled on a piece of paper with an adhesive back and stuck on the hijab area.

DEAR FAISAL MANAP, TUDUNG IS IMPORTANT BUT SO IS SINGAPORE’S UNITY

Mr Faisal Manap, do you know why the attire our men and women in the SAF and Police and Nursing is called a uniform? It's because it is meant to be UNIFORM, to show that regardless of religion, language or race, these personnel strive to be equal and uphold the pledge to defend all Singaporeans, not just their own race or religion. I hope Mr Faisal can truly be an MP for all Singaporeans instead of just the malay community. I hope you can see how your constant raising of such sensitive issues may cause others outside the malay community to feel uneasy. You are an elected MP, you have the right to raise any issue in Parliament, I hope you use your power with responsibility and help move Singapore forward, not just keep it exclusive for our malay community.

Someone explain to me how this "thing on my head" would in any way prevent me from carrying out the job I was assigned to as well as anyone else without a hijab.
