No injuries were reported. The fire involved contents of a room, and the cause of the fire is being investigated. MacPherson Member of Parliament Tin Pei Ling thanked the police and SCDF for their "quick and effective response". The block involved is under the purview of the MacPherson single-member constituency. Ms Tin shared a photo of herself with some policemen and firefighters on Facebook on Thursday night, saying they were "courageous and knew exactly what needed to be done".

It is reported that all newly built homes - Housing Board flats as well as private residences - will have to be installed with smoke detectors from next June, when an updated Fire Code is released. Called a home fire alarm, the device costs between $60 and $80 for a basic version. Installation could cost another $50 or so. The best thing is, the cost of the smoke detectors will likely be borne by the home owners themselves.
