SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO ASSIST PALESTINE

SINGAPORE will continue to help the Palestinians in their nation-building efforts by training their officials in such areas as public finance and administration. About 150 Palestinian officials have been trained in Singapore since 1996 and the numbers are set to rise in the next four years, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli told reporters on Wednesday.

HAMAS DECLARES VICTORY AS LONG TERM TRUCE REACHED WITH ISRAEL

A senior Palestinian official told the AFP on Tuesday that an elusive long-term truce agreement has been reached between Israel and Palestinians after nearly two months of fighting. A source told The Jerusalem Post that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will announce the details of Egyptian-led cease fire agreement this evening.The cease fire was finalized after 48 hours of talks between representatives from Qatar, Egypt, Gaza, and the West Bank, Al Jazeera America reported on Tuesday.

HAMAS & ISRAEL AGREES NEW 72 HOURS TRUCE

Israel and Hamas said they have agreed a new 72-hour truce starting on Tuesday (August 5), after increasingly vocal world demands for a ceasefire in the bloody Gaza conflict. The apparent breakthrough came during talks in Cairo on Monday, only days after a similar three-day truce collapsed in a deadly wave of violence within hours of starting on Friday. Images of the bloodshed - which has cost more than 1,800 Palestinian lives, and 64 Israeli soldiers in and near Gaza and three civilians in Israel - have sent tensions in the region soaring, earning the Jewish state strong criticism.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says that it neutralized an explosive-laden donkey that was said to be heading toward Israeli troops in Gaza on Friday. And by neutralized, we mean, the explosives were set off with gunfire. According to the IDF, using explosive-rigged animals to attack Israeli troops has an not-so-illustrious past including donkeys and dogs.

Singapore 'Seriously Disturbed' by Deteriorating Situation in Gaza

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) says Singapore is "seriously disturbed" by the deteriorating situation in Gaza, after Israel launched a ground offensive there to stamp out rocket attacks. "This will sharply exacerbate the humanitarian crisis," an MFA spokesman said in response to media queries on Friday (July 18).

Israel launches ground operation in Gaza

Israel began a ground operation in Gaza late Thursday on the tenth day of an offensive to stamp out rocket fire from the Hamas-run enclave, that has cost 246 Palestinian lives. The assault follows a brief humanitarian truce and an urgent appeal by both Washington and the UN that Israel redouble its efforts to avoid harm to civilians. "I regret that despite my repeated urgings, and those of many regional and world leaders together, an already dangerous conflict has now escalated even further," UN chief Ban Ki-moon told reporters, urging Israel to "do far more" to spare Palestinian civilians. Hamas warned Israel would pay a "high price" for its escalation.

ISRAEL ACCEPTS EGYPT'S CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL, HAMAS YET TO AGREE

Israel's security cabinet on Tuesday accepted an Egyptian ceasefire proposal, a government spokesman said, after a week of the deadliest violence in and around Gaza in years. "The cabinet has decided to accept the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire starting 9am today," Ofir Gendelman, spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Twitter.

PALESTINIAN BLOODSHED: A VICTORY FOR VIOLENT EXTREMISM

Regardless of your faith, pray for the people of Palestine and Israel that sane moderate voices would emerge from both sides and put a stop to this mutual violence. The use of violence seldom bring about its desired outcome but guarantees only misery, hardship and suffering. History has demonstrated time and again the pitfalls of such violent extremism and it is up to humans to recognise this and stop such extremism from taking root.
