A hacker, calling himself THE KNOWNS, who claims to be hacking Singapore websites in retaliation to Singapore government raising the toll rates at Woodlands. WHAT IS 2-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (2FA)?

Two Factor Authentication, also known as 2FA, two step verification or TFA (as an acronym), is an extra layer of security that is known as "multi factor authentication" that requires not only a password and username but also something that only, and only, that user has on them, i.e. a piece of information only they should know or have immediately to hand - such as a physical token. Using a username and password together with a piece of information that only the user knows makes it harder for potential intruders to gain access and steal that person's personal data or identity.

1560 SingPass accounts hacked

IDA said that investigations so far show there is no evidence to suggest the SingPass system has been compromised. But if that is the case, then how did someone managed to trigger password reset for 419 accounts? Hopefully IDA and Crimson Logic can finish their investigation soon and stop this from happening again. By the way, usually when there is a hack, I would recommend everyone to change their password. But for this case, I don’t know if changing your password will help or not. It seems like someone managed to change the registered mobile number in the system for 2FA and used that to reset the password. Changing your SingPass password does not do anything unless your account has been compromised.

I WAS UNABLE TO LOGIN TO SINGPASS SINCE END OF MAY 2014

Thinking that something is wrong somewhere, I logged in. Again. And again. What the h*ll? Why do I need to login multiple times without being able to do something simple like change my appointment date?! If that’s the case, then, something is very wrong somewhere. I know there is this Heartbleed issue going on. I use Chrome to do it and using the government internet to login to the government website. I’m in the same sector and I get rejected. Bloody barnacles!

The day Anonymous knocked on my door

The statement by Anonymous also came attached with the personal particulars of 10 individuals, including their names and government e-mail addresses. More significantly, it also listed much more private information such as birthdates, passport numbers, and mobile phone numbers. Interestingly, there were signs the data was pretty old. Some of the phone numbers were out of service, and some of the respondents told me they had long left the particular government agency identified via the associated e-mail address.
