LKY’S POWER HUNGRY ATTITUDE GAVE US MANY 2ND RATED MPS

If one were to look back at Singapore’s Parliamentary history, then he should be acquainted with fact that the GRC system was introduced shortly before the 1988 General Elections. The Election before – in 1984 – was when they loss two Seats to the opposition. While they may argue that this GRC system was introduced to safeguard minority representation, political history has shown this to be untrue. From JBJ to Murali, there have been minority-race candidates who win on their own merit!

PRITAM SINGH: THE PEOPLE’S ASSOCIATION IS A “FRONT” FOR PAP EVENTS

GRC-level Citizenship Ceremonies or GCCs provide a platform for the Government to organise the citizenship ceremony around politics, allowing ex-PAP candidates and PAP MPs to present citizenship certificates and NRICs to new voters, ostensibly to raise the PAP’s standing among new citizens. The People’s Association provides the front, as it does to all community-level PAP events, to legitimise the ceremony as a government-sanctioned event.

NEW CITIZEN: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PA & GRC?

Last Saturday, I attended a Citizenship Ceremony at the Kaki Bukit Community Centreas a guest of one of my residents who had recently acquired Singapore citizenship. The Guest-of-Honour for the event was the Grassroots Adviser to the Kaki Bukit Grassroots Organisations (GRO) Mr Shamsul Kamar. The certificate presentation ceremony was separately graced by Mr Lee Hong Chuang BBM, Grassroots Adviser to the Hougang GROs and Dr Kee Wei Heong, also a Grassroots Adviser to the Kaki Bukit GROs. Mr Shamsul and Mr Lee were the losing election candidates for Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC under the People’s Action Party (PAP) ticket in the 2015 General Elections. During the ceremony, one perceptive new citizen asked me, “what is the difference between the People’s Association and the GRC (Group Representative Constituency)?”

ALJUNIED RESIDENT: MURALI ABANDONED US AND FAILED TO KEEP HIS PROMISES!

Now that Murali has decided to abandon us for a shot at the high part-time salaried post, what has become of the promises he and his fellow teammates for that matter, made to us? Was it just in vain? No matter what the outcome of the BE is, my neighbors and I have already decided to cast our lots with the Mr Low Thia Khiang instead of Victor Lye at the next GE as their insincerity and dishonesty have seriously put us off to a point of no return.

TIME TO MAKE NATURE RESERVE A GRC TO TRAIN NEW JIAKLIAOBI POLITICIANS

I would like to propose making the nature reserve into a GRC for the purpose of making Singapore more democratic. I have 10 reasons. 1. Singapore’s population is growing so we need to encourage more people to become MPs by showing them how good life as an MP is. 2. This should be used as a training ground for new politicians as well. Learn to eat snake, play with duckweed and sing song with parrots.

RESPECT FOR THE NEW MP WHO WORKED HARD TO GET INTO PARLIAMENT

He's finally in parliament after a long 4 year period of waiting and hoping... Despite losing twice in an SMC and failing to reach the 40% mark twice, this determined chap is finally in parliament. He took a difficult route instead of taking the tried and tested route. Instead of staying to re-contest the aforementioned SMC for a third time or try his luck at another SMC, he embarked on a new and uncertain journey, full of pitfalls and deceptive illusions of success. This more challenging path to parliament is called the GRC.

EAST COAST VOTER: KEEP CALM & VOTE WORKERS PARTY!

Calling all East Coast Voters! This year we have a very important responsibility towards our fellow residents and all citizens of Singapore. Some may consider this responsibility a privilege while others may see it as a heavy burden. But no matter how you look at it, this year, we are given the opportunity to be part of this watershed elections where we can decide the fate of the PAP and the fate of all Singaporeans in our hands.

WHY THE HOT-BLOODED FIGHT OVER MACPHERSON SMC?

WP are very smart in a sense where they stick to their plans and play the waiting game, letting the action and drama play out in NSP which affects only NSP’s image, not theirs. Lesson 1, the one who strategize in the long-term, instead of making quick decisions rashly, only gains to win. Bigger shark eating smaller fish. Lesson 2, more power = more control over the playing field = less prominent parties will give way to us. Does this mean more parties will have to give way to WP in the future?
