BUDGET ANNOUNCEMENTS TODAY, SO GOODIES NOW, END OF YEAR PRICES GO UP AGAIN?

The Finance Minister will definitely name you handouts, that will cover Singpaoreans from all walks of life. But, how long before the sweeteners got turned into other price increases? Already ERP charges going up in several areas. Service and Conservnacy Charges also going up. So, next, our public transport fares also going up? After all, many people are happy with the public transport, right?

Only thing you can be sure of is this. Your salary, even if they do go up, will be minimal compared to other costs rising around us. This is Singapore.

S'POREANS GIVE THE PAP TOO MUCH CREDIT FOR THE BASIC GOODIES THEY PROVIDE

Some people think that being neutral means if you have 5 bad things to say about PAP, you must also have 5 good things to say about PAP. But that is not what being neutral is all about. Being neutral doesn't mean 50-50 regardless of the situation. Being neutral means being fair to each and every individual depending on the unique facts of each situation. If there's nothing good to say about PAP, there's nothing good to say about PAP.

DINNERS AND GOODIES FOR RESIDENTS LIVING IN PAP CONTROLLED AREAS

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who is also the MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC gave a CNY dinner to his residents on Saturday (28 Feb). Special stage performances were also included, treating some 1,300 residents. Meanwhile, in Bedok and Braddell Heights, some $250,000 worth of daily essentials were given out to needy residents yesterday (1 Mar). It was said to be part of a “community initiative”. NTUC FairPrice and Abbott partnered with grassroots organisations in both constituencies to donate essentials such as oil, canned food and milk to some 5,000 residents.

1.6 million S'poreans to get GST Voucher letters

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) yesterday said 1.6 million Singaporeans will receive letters this week outlining the various benefits they will be getting. These include the 2014 Goods and Services Tax Voucher (GSTV), 2014 GSTV Special Payments, five-Year Medisave top- up as well as the Service and Conservancy Charges rebates. The MOF said about 1.3 million Singaporeans will receive the GSTV-Cash on Aug 1.
