WE NEED BY-ELECTION IN MARSILING-YEW TEE, DON'T LET RULING PARTY PLAY WITH THE CONSTITUTION

Our reader who is a resident of Marsiling-Yew Tee finds it undemocratic for the ruling party to play around with the Constitution and have Mdm Halimah Yacob quit the party in order to run for the Presidential election. She said this is not what the residents have voted for and hopes opposition politicians can do something about this.

WHAT HAPPENED TO PAP'S VICTOR LYE?

Since the beginning of Singapore, PAP leaders have been instilling unnecessary fear in Singaporeans towards the opposition. LKY claims that Singapore women will work as maids overseas when the opposition takes over while GCT has gone as far as to label the opposition as opportunistic “nomads”

It has been slightly more than a year since the 2015GE and I would like to challenge this notion as pure bullshit.

These observations are based on my conversations with some friends who feel no strong inclination to vote for the PAP or the opposition. The results of GE2015 should not be seen as just an endorsement of the PAP but also as a complete rejection of the more left-wing politicians and civil society activists. WP is seen as the just acceptable alternative that the swing voters want. Barely acceptable, but still preferred when compared to the scenario of an all-PAP parliament.

OPPOSITION PARTIES SHOULD SPEAK UP FOR THE CONCERNS OF NEW CITIZENS

In my view, some opposition parties inflicted a lot of damage on themselves when they went on vocally against immigration. At the forum, I made one suggestion which I have never heard anyone else make before. I said opposition parties should begin to speak up for the concerns of new citizens; if possible find one or two as candidates.
