[COMPLAIN] DBS STAFF DO NOT DESERVE THE $1000 FOR SG50

Dear Editor, I read with shock that DBS Bank is going to give out $1000 to all local and foreign DBS employees at the level of vice-president and below, to celebrate SG50. The bank estimates that this will work out to be $10 million. I am disturbed why DBS, a Singapore born and bred bank is being so generous to its employees, many of whom are not even Singaporeans. Many will already know DBS was actually set up with government's money, i.e. The people's money.

SINGAPORE NEEDS TO LEARN FROM AUSTRALIA AND PUT SINGAPOREANS FIRST

Its also difficult to find any supervisor or manager who is a foreigner - the Aussies try to preserve their power base in the workforce by appointing their own people in supervisory positions. I worked in a nursing home before and all the supervisors are white. This is so different from Singapore whereby many of us find ourselves reporting to foreign managers. Unless the foreign labour situation improves here, Singaporeans will continue to search for greener pastures abroad.

Singapore Govt gives tuition grants of $210 million a year to foreign students

MOE said that the Govt gives tuition grants of $210 million a year to foreign students. It said that most of the foreign students who received grant have been “contributing to our economy”. Most of the grant recipients have been working and are contributing to our economy, while some did not start work immediately as they had deferred their bonds to pursue further studies. Actions will be taken against those who default on their obligations.
