TOP ENGLISH TALENT ASPIRES TO REPRESENT SG IN FOOTBALL

This football player, Luke O'Nien qualifies for Singapore as his maternal grandfather is a Singaporean. And his maternal grandfather is not only just a Singaporean, but he happens to be the brother of Lim Kim San,a former cabinet minister who is credited with helping to solve Singapore’s housing issues in the 1960s. Luke O'Nien is 22 years old, and his performances for Wycombe Wanderers, a League Two team in England have been so good, that some bigger clubs are watching him play. O'Nien has also indicated that it would be an honour for him to play international football for Singapore. Now, if the FAS are currently looking at the foreign talents who can represent Singapore, having spent the minimum five years on Singapore soil, and is fast tracking them to become Singaporeans, why not call up this young man? He might not have been to Singapore, but he is as Singaporean as the foreign talents the FAS are trying to assimilate into the national team. If we are going back to the road of foreign talents, then here is one talented young man ready for Singapore.

FT CHARGED $5.80 FOR BEE HOON AT DHOBY XCHANGE: “WAS I CONNED?”

I bought my lunch from a economical beef hoon stall at Dhoby Xchange the other day. I chose mix of fried rice and fried bee hoon, stir-fried cabbage, seaweed chicken, and a fried egg. This combination is my favourite, which costs me around 3.50 at foodcourts in my neighbourhood. However, the unfriendly and rude male staff charged $5.80!!! Is this because I am a foreigner who doesn't know the price in Singapore? I've never paid this kind of price for "economical" bee hoon. Do you think I was conned? In one of these days, I will ask my local friends to get the same combination and see how much the stall will charge him. Do you think it's overpriced?

FOREIGN COMPANIES HIRING THEIR FELLOW COUNTRYMEN WHILE LOCALS SIDELINED

They have successfully coerced a few into an unfair package of 2 weeks for every year of service when the law states that those who have worked for 2 years are entitled to a month's remuneration for every subsequent year of service upon retrenchment. When those colleagues contacted MOM, MOM said they cannot do anything (even though its in the law) as foreign companies have the ultimate right to decide their own affairs which got us pondering, then what's the use of MOM for? To my horror, I learned from other friends my age group that they too are still facing uncertainty in their present employment at various F&B as they are employed at contract based and 1 of my friends who have been working for the last 3 years has not even been confirmed yet! While Singaporean staffs are employed at these outlets for $1500/-, most of our Malaysian counterparts and Filipinos are hired at least $1800/- and more as most of them are supervisors and managers lording over us!
