MANILA STANDARD: SINGAPOREANS ARE RACISTS, HAUGHTY, RUDE & EGOTISTICAL
Like the locals of Hong Kong, Singaporeans have a great deal of contempt for the Filipinos working in their territory. Their disdain for Filipinos is confirmed in the recent propaganda circulating in the so-called Lion City on how to maltreat Filipinos in everyday situations there. One would think that the nationals of a country with all those blessings would behave like civilized persons. That is not the case with Singaporeans. It appears that their wealth and financial strength are the very reasons for their racist attitude.

Although we wanted to rent out on a “as it is” condition as my MIL do not want the hacking and noise of installing aircon, we pitied the Filipino ladies who need the place urgently, so we went ahead and had the aircon installed urgently at our cost TRUSTING that we can recover the cost of aircon installation over the term of the 2 year tenancy contract. Three months into the tenancy, these ladies tell my MIL they are moving because they found a cheaper room, one that they claimed is cheaper by $200. They asked my MIL to reduce the rent by $200 or they move!

My friend is baffled. She doubt our government allows low income earners to be Singapore citizens. In addition, if they are really earning low income, why do they have a maid and a car? However, as the new citizen (former filipino citizen) showed her CPF contribution which is very low, she is entitled to the childcare subsidy and thus they only pay about $8.00 per month when others are paying $650.00 per month at the PAP PCF childcare centre. She is also angry as SIngaporeans who are really low-income earners have to pay $35 per month after subsidies.

“Very Bad Player” a Singaporean DOTA player said in a DOTA 2 community forum last night that a group of South East Asian DOTA players were making a concerted move to ban DOTA 2 in the Philippines before the end of the year. According to STEAM, the community platform that manages DOTA 2 worldwide, they have been receiving many request to “IP BAN” all Filipino players in STEAM. The common bugbear for DOTA 2 players is the lack of gaming etiquette shown by Filipino DOTA players. They appear to be uneducated and often resort to using foul words while playing.

When were the Filipinos here to help build this Singapore economy? If I remember my history well, Singapore was founded in 1819 by Stamford Raffles, and the development of Singapore began with the arrival of the traders from near and far, and the infrastructure in this British Colony was built by laborers from India and China.

In 1986, when she was 19, Bustamante began working as a domestic helper in Singapore. During her three years in the job, she also studied Accounting at the Open University of Singapore Institute of Management. She was even able to finish the undergraduate program without her employers knowing it. “I did my studying during the evenings when everyone was asleep. From 11 in the evening to 1 a.m. [I would] start my job at 5 a.m. I was only given a day off. That one day off I would go to school to talk to my professors and get my whole month's worth of homework,” she said.

Last week, I felt concerned enough about Philippine Independence Day celebration saga that I wrote to the Philippine Embassy saying that I am sorry for the harassment the organisers have gotten, but that I also believe that there is some level of miscommunication and cross-talk between the organisers of the event and those that protest (at least some). I assured the Philippine embassy in Singapore that the protesters do not mean ill-will to the people of Philippines and that they appreciated the contributions of the Filipinos to our country. I expressed that the protesters' frustrations were more about the immigration and manpower policies in place.
