According to the TR Emeritus article “Khaw dismisses critics who feel housing is unaffordable” (Aug 22) – “For Sengkang, the situation is worse. 2-room flats are priced below ratio of 4, but 3-room and 4-room flats have ratios of 4.5 and 5.4 respectively. So, in fact, Sengkang 4-room BTO flats (ratio of 5.4) are considered unaffordable by the standards laid down by the World Bank and the United Nations.”

GOVT INFLATING CONSULTATION FEES TO MAKE MEDICAL SUBSIDIES LOOK GOOD?

The consultation fee for a neighbourhood private doctor is usually between $20-$30. Public polyclinic is supposed to be cheaper than private clinics. How in the world can a public medical service be much expensive? It's either the authorities are inflating the consultation fee and then makes it look like the gov is heavily subsidizing our medical cost or our doctors working at polyclinics are being paid super scale salary that rival the private sectors. I know the latter isn't true.

THANKS TO SMRT, MY UBER RIDE HOME COST ME OVER $100

Have you ever travelled home in Singapore this expensive? Only when you are desperate to get home while the country's main train lines are down during the peak hour, the free buses are no where in sight, the public buses are packed to the neck, and the taxi queues are as long as buying Hello Kitty, that you'll have no choice but to book a taxi. Then again, using the Grab Taxi app failed as there was no available taxis so i had to use Uber.

MND SURVEY: PEOPLE TEND TO OVERESTIMATE HDB PRICES & THINK ITS EXPENSIVE

A survey by the Ministry of National Development showed that 20% of Singaporeans interviewed had plans to buy a flat in the next five years. Based on survey results, new HDB flat prices are overestimated by the public, and the majority of prospective flat buyers are willing to pay more than the current average prices. Despite multiple cooling measures such as the delinking of new flats from resale market, the public still perceives BTO flats are expensive and unaffordable.
