SINGAPORE NOW CHEAPER FOR FTS DUE TO WEAKENING S'PORE DOLLAR

Singapore's cost of living has fallen for expatriates living here, says a report by ECA International. According to the report, Singapore now ranks 24th in the list of locations most expensive for expats, as compared to 18th last year. This is the first time Singapore has fallen out of the 20 top ranking position.

In the latest HSBC Expat Explorer poll, Singapore has been given the dubious honour of being one of the best places in the world to live and work for expatriates. Respondents said that Singapore offered the right balance of career opportunities, lifestyles, as well as a stable economy.

ANG MOH EXPAT: THERE IS NO QUALITY FOOD IN SINGAPORE!

I'm starting to wonder if there is any quality food in Singapore. Is mass-market food so poor, because the locals are unwilling or unable to pay for better? It's not like they're time poor (as in the US), as most of them have maids. It just strikes me as ridiculous sometimes that Singapore claims to be a food haven when you can't find a single thing worth eating in this country.

Why This Expat Loves Living In Singapore

I sometimes get amused looks from North Americans when I tell them that I moved to Singapore. They tend to reflexively respond that I must be crazy to move to a country where "consuming even chewing gum is a crime." The interaction that happens between us leaves me thinking that they want to rationalize not having to do the hard work of understanding what other places are like.

Is Singapore the World’s Costliest City? For Expats Only, Minister Says

A day after a new cost-of-living index released by the Economist Intelligence Unit dubbed Singapore the costliest city globally, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam downplayed the results by saying they did not quite reflect average Singaporeans’ ability to meet daily living expenses. Cost-of-living surveys like the one produced by the EIU “are really aimed at measuring expatriate costs of living in different parts of the world,” he said during a budget debate in Parliament on Wednesday.
