The LTA has decided that more roads are congested and thus, ERP is required to ease these congestions. Either that, or they want more money for motorists to pay, as if not enough had already been paid to the LTA. Anyways, today's reports indicated that the ERP will be activated during morning peak hours at the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) after Defu Flyover from May 8. The current rate of $2 for the KPE gantry will apply between 7am and 9.30am on weekdays. This is also on top of the news that the current ERP rates along the stretch on Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), after North Buona Vista Road towards Tuas, will be doubled to $2 from May 8.

Why does the PAP continue to INCREASE the cost of living in Singapore during a recession? In times of economic uncertainty, they raise the cost of water, the most important resource to keep on living, all while maintaining their high salaries. With the recent increase in motorbike COE and introduction of more ERPs, I wonder what will be the next decree that will drill holes in our pockets.

I applaud to LTA's move to operate the ERP along amount Pleasant entrance to PIE (Changi) and also on PIE (Changi) after Lornie Road during the evening peak hours. This is a great move because traffic there is terrible between 5pm to 8pm where there are so many vehicles heading east back home, we should make private car ownership less affordable so that more people can ditch the idea of owning a car, otherwise roads will be like in the Philippines, havoc! However, I find that the ERP rates for this two gantries are too cheap already, $1 to $2 for cars is nothing.

The rate for both gantries will be $2 between 5.30pm and 7pm, and $1 from 7pm to 7.30pm. Meanwhile, ERP rates at two gantries along the north-bound Central Expressway (CTE) will also be increased during evening peak hours from Feb 20. Both gantries are located after the PIE exit. Of course, reason given by the LTA is that the expressway at the those directions has slowed down tremendously, so need to put up ERP to discourage drivers from using the expressway at the peak period timing.

How will this impact on taxi and bus fare structures? Won't there be an acute shortage of cabs plying within the priced zones during peak hours then, since the longer they ply to look for fares, the more they would be charged? Are they intruding into my privacy, since now they can track my whereabouts within the priced boundaries? Will there be diff road pricing along diff stretches within the priced zone? Will there be price fluctuations at different times of the day within the restricted zone?
