S'PORE ELECTRICITY CHARGES ONE OF THE HIGHEST IN THE WORLD

According to “Cost Of Electricity By Country – Comparison of average electricity prices in select countries” (worldatlas.com – “last modified on September 19, 2016) – Singapore’s electricity tariff at 14.90 (S$21.61 divided by 1.45) U.S. dollar cents per kilowatt hour, would put it at number 4 (most expensive) among the 18 countries.

ELECTRICITY BILLS TO INCREASE BY 5.7%

Electricity bills will increase by 5.7%, which adds up to about $4.30 for a 4 room HDB flat, for the period of 1 January and 31 March 2017 next year, says SP Services.

S'PORE POWER: ELECTRICITY TARIFFS UP BY 9.2%, UTILITY BILLS TO RISE

Singapore Power Services announced on Thursday (30 June 2016) that electricity tariffs for 2016 3rd quarter will increase by 9.2% or 1.59cents per kilowatt hour. SP Services claimed that this was due to a 26% increase in cost of natural gas used for electricity generation. This would translate into an average monthly bill increase of $6.79.

DON'T BE FOOLED INTO THINKING S'PORE HAS LOW TAXES!

Do you realise that the tax imposed on water and electricity consumption in Singapore is very high? Just examine this bill of a very careful consumer. Waterborne fee $4.45 Sanitary Appliance Fee $6.61 Water Conservation Tax $1.34… On top of these taxes, water and electricity consumption is added GST of $3.11 thus making a total tax of $11.12 or 23.24% of the bill of $47.73.
