SON OF LATE FORMER PRESIDENT ONG TENG CHEONG & COUSIN COMPLETES WORLD MARATHON CHALLENGE

Singaporean runners Mr Ong Tze Boon, 47 and his cousin Mr Ong Yu-Phing, 46 ran seven marathons, in seven continents, over seven consecutive days last month. The duo participated in the World Marathon Challenge where they ran a total of 295km and withstood temperatures ranging from -15 to 25 degrees Celsius. They ran alongside participants from Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Morocco, and United States of America. And they are not hanging up their running shoes just yet! The duo will take on another marathon in the North Pole in April. With these grueling runs, the cousins are looking to raise funds and awareness for five charities that support mental health; Caregivers Alliance Limited, Samaritans of Singapore, Alzheimer's Disease Association, We Care Community Services and Singapore Association for Mental Health.

I tried to walk pass her so that I can avoid but suddenly she grabbed my arms. Begging me to help her, buy her pen as she is hungry and no money for lunch. No choice but to give her $2. She took the money without giving me a pen. Sunday went orchard. Same thing happened but this time is tissue aunt. She grabbed my hand and beg me to buy. GF opened her purse and took out $10 as she got no change. I told her I have $2. Lao auntie quickly grabbed the $10 and walked away without giving us the tissue.

MALAYSIAN COUPLE GIVES UP AN EYE EACH SO THAT BLIND BABY CAN SEE

A couple plan to donate one eye each to their 17-month-old son so that he can see, Harian Metro reported. Doctors told Yus Nurlina Mohd Yusuf, 25, and Khairul Syafiq Azmi, 27, that Khairil Mikhail's left eye was not functioning while his right eye was impaired. "My husband and I do not mind being blind in one eye so that our son can have a brighter future," said Yus.

My wife and I gave our youth – energy and monetary sacrifice ever since the Building Fund started. We often got persecuted for our faith. Faith when we do not have enough money to eat or even to take the bus back home. My parents will always tell me why do I want to make myself so difficult in giving to the building fund and have not enough or no money even for basic living expenses. I told her as a student, I am more than blessed and I am giving for the future, for our building. The famous saying goes “if we build God a house, he will build ours…” and also “the future is ours…”

In the last week, the armed conflict in Gaza has hotted up. Hundreds of people have been killed, mostly civilians, including many children and infants. The loss of innocent lives is tragic and painful. The Middle East is far away, but still we empathise with the pain and suffering of the Palestinian people, because of our common humanity. Alas there is no easy solution. The Israel-Palestinian problem goes back almost a century. The distrust and enmity are mutual, and deep. Yet there is no future in this endless cycle of violence and retribution.
