I was discriminated because I was wearing a hijab, I like to share my unfortunate experience with you. I went for an interview today at one of the modern montessori preschool in Kovan and my interview went well until my interviewer Mdm Sheela, Director of MMI told me.. "Since you are wearing the hijab if you start working here you have to wear a bandanna to cover your just your hair...Because we have many incidents where chinese parents are afraid to handover their kids to a staff who is wearing hijab. kids get scared too."

OUT OF THE BOX KIDS’ CLUB: WE DO NOT DISCRIMINATE BECAUSE WE HAVE MUSLIM STAFF WHO WEAR THE HIJAB

To clarify, 6 employees out of 9 are Muslim and 3 wearing the hijab. Our food is cooked by a Muslim wearing a hijab, our food is halal. We have Muslims, Indians and Chinese working here with different religions as well. The person who came for the interview and complained on this matter left a job after 1 month and another with a child care centre after 3 months and reason being ,she cant take the children’s noise.

MALAY MUSLIMS SHOULD NOT KEEP PLAYING THE VICTIM IN HIRING ISSUES BECAUSE IT MIGHT BACKFIRE ON THEM

Sometimes I wonder if it is good for Malays to take job hiring issues into the public because while they might get that company into the negative spotlight but the end consequences are it might cause a lot more bosses/companies out there to view the Malay Muslim community who use religious issues as a threat to force them to hire them and over time this might cause people to view Muslim people as too troublesome to hire. I write because I am worried for you and I don't know whether taking this course of action will end up helping the Malay community or harming themselves instead.

LGBT DISCRIMINATION IS JUST LIKE RACIAL DISCRIMINATION, WHERE IS OUR PROTECTION?

To the girl in ethics class that felt that we the LGBT community should "move else where" as biases will always exist and we will always be discriminated. I would just like to tell you, we are not trying to make Singapore to like us or agree with our love preference, sexual preference or our gender identity. We just hope that Singapore will at least give us the due protection we need to make sure we will not be given up on a career opportunity or to be bullied by other people for that matter.
