MALAYSIAN DRUNK DRIVER WHO KILLED CERTIS CISCO OFFICER IN ACCIDENT JAILED

A Malaysian man, Manuel Ang Boon Jiat, 29, was jailed for one and a half years and disqualified from driving here for 10 years, for driving while drunk and killing an on-duty Certis Cisco Auxiliary officer. In February this year, Ang who had 12 glasses of beer, got into his car and failed to stop near the Tuas Checkpoint, eventually killing one of three officers on duty diverting traffic there. Reports indicated that Ang, who was a salesman in Singapore, was on his way back to his home in Johor Bahru after a night of merry-making. At the same time, the officer, Lance Corporal Norman Samri, 33 and two other fellow colleagues were diverting traffic at the Tuas Checkpoint Departure Viaduct after a minor accident there around 1am on Feb 10. They were wearing yellow reflective vests with blinker lights placed on their shoulders, which can be easily seen. However, Ang failed to notice them, and failed to stop in time. He hit Lance Corporal Norman, who was standing in the centre lane of the three-lane road. He was flung upwards before landing near a concrete barrier on the extreme right lane. The other two Certis Cisco officers managed to jump out of the way.

MAN JUMPED OUT OF MOVING TAXI, DIES OF HIS INJURIES

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, a 22 year old man was reportedly killed when he jumped out of a moving taxi. The incident happened along Bedok Reservoir Road, and it was reported that he was in the taxi with another female passenger. Based on news reports, the young man allegedly jumped out of the cab after getting into a dispute with the woman. Police were alerted to the incident at about 4:04am on Saturday. "A 22-year-old man was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead," said the police spokesman. SCDF were also alerted to the accident at 4:10pm at the junction of Bedok North Road and Bedok Reservoir Road, and took one man to CGH.

WILD BOAR DIED IN SG ROADKILL IN A RARE ACCIDENT ON SG ROADS

The aftermath of the accident indicated that the dead wild boar had also suffered a broken leg. However, reports indicated that the driver of the vehicle was not hurt. Apaprently, the wild boar had dashed into the middle of the road, and the car that hit it could not stop on time. Acres and AVA did not receive any calls regarding the accident, and the driver had already left the scene when reporters reached there. While some are making fun of this situation, a wild animal running lose on the expressways are no joking matter. They may contribute to a road user actually getting seriously hurt. Authorities have adviced that any animals that are hit on the road t be left alone, and to let the relevant authorities deal with them, as they can be dangerous especially when hurt.

ACCIDENT AT SERVICE ROAD LED TO DEATH OF 77 YEAR OLD

A 77 year old man died this morning in an accident that happened along the service road of Block 485 Segar Road. The man, a pedestrian, was knocked down by a minibus at around 6:12am this morning. He was taken unconscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. A police statement said that a 69-year-old male driver was arrested for causing death by a rash act, and police said investigations are ongoing. Not even an actual road where the accident took place, but a service road between blocks.

SECONDARY STUDENT DIES AFTER RETURNING FROM CHINA TRIP

A 15-year-old secondary 3 student was pronounced dead at the hospital after he suffered from severe vomiting and diarrhea. The student had just returned home from a school trip to Shanghai, China. Zheng Ding Yuan is a student at Catholic High who enjoyed outdoor activities. He is an only son residing with his mother in the Bishan area.
