INSENSITIVE TO ASK LEE WEI LING TO VACATE OXLEY HOME JUST TO RESOLVE DISPUTE

PM Lee should abide by laws and respect LKY's wish to have his house demolished. That being said, people should stop asking Lee Wei Ling to move out of her house so that they can demolish it and replace it with some memorial. "Shame on you for not realising that the house is not just a physical building to Lee Wei Ling. It is a place, a home, where she lived in for more than 60 years, where she grew up in with her parents, where she was born in and where she saw her father care for her mother in her dying days. And you want her to move out because you want this inconvenient issue settled asap? Why? Because it is an embarrassment to us all? That is such an insensitive thing to do, it is really appalling."

For those who think she should move out asap, please do take some time to ponder what a home is.

EX-MP IRENE NG: DEMOLISH OXLEY RD HOUSE SO WE CAN ALL MOVE ON!

Former MP Irene Ng has come up with a brilliant idea to resolve the FamiLEE dispute by asking for 38 Oxley Rd to be demolished NOW. "I believe that as long as the core issue remains – what to do with the house – and as long as the house stands, the saga will not end. It will be a running sore. The Lee family will continue to suffer, and we will not be spared... To end the saga now by demolishing the house, all parties involved have to pay a price... Demolish the house, end the saga now, and let's all move on."

WHY CAN'T GOVT JUST HONOUR LKY AND GRANT HIM HIS LAST WISH?

No one has suggested that LHY had other ulterior motives or special benefits in wanting the house demolished, except to honour his father's wish. He wanted it demolished even when LHL was the named beneficiary. Subsequently, he paid good money to buy it from LHL to have his sister continue staying there and demolished when it was time. Then to turn it into a memorial garden, if need be. I see in him a fervent desire to honour his father's wish and the absence of a selfish motive.

LEE HSIEN LOONG BETRAYS ASIAN VALUE OF FILIAL PIETY BY GOING AGAINST LKY WISHES?

By defying his late father's wish to have his house demolished and twisting his words, Lee Hsien Loong is betraying the very important value of filial piety in Asian society. And ironically, filial piety is central to Confucianism which his late father tried to use as a cloak to legitimise his authoritarian rule. His act of defying LKY's wish hence will have the effect of diminishing respect many older folks have for him.

VIRAL VIDEO CLAIMS LKY FLIP PRATA ON 38 OXLEY DEMOLITION, SUGGESTED RENO WORKS IF HOUSE PRESERVED

This video is circulating furiously online. It alleges that contrary to Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling's statements, Lee Kuan Yew was not adamant about demolishing his home. In the video and another Lee Hsien Loong speech, Mr Lee Kuan Yew's letter to cabinet was read out and LKY supposedly reflected upon and changed his mind on the matter.

LEE HSIEN YANG: MY ELDER BRO REFUSE TO ANSWER SIMPLE QN, WAS LKY UNWAVERING IN HIS DEMOLITION WISH?

Lee Hsien Loong now claims, “My father left the property at 38 Oxley Road to me, as part of my equal share of his estate. But my siblings were not happy about it.” Wei Ling and I never had any objection to LHL receiving an equal share of the estate. We object to LHL's flip-flopping about Lee Kuan Yew's demolition wish. We asked a simple question, that he has refused to answer for a week: Was our father, Lee Kuan Yew, unwavering in his demolition wish? Yes or no?

DR LEE WEI LING: SG GOVT SHOULD HONOUR LKY'S WISH TO DEMOLISH OXLEY RD HOME

Papa would be 93 today if he were still alive. He lived a full life, committing most of his time and energy to advancing Singapore and Singaporeans' welfare. He did so with no ulterior motives, abjuring any personality cult in spite of well-meaning intentions of his fellow Singaporeans. In this age where prestige and power attract unscrupulous people to enter politics, Papa's wish should be honoured as an example of an outstanding Singaporean who did not want to be hero-worshipped. To preserve the house sends a wrong message to Singapore's politicians and aspiring politicians. It is also impossible to say we honour him and dishonour his only request of Singaporeans.

LEE KUAN YEW'S 38 OXLEY ROAD HOUSE TO BE DEMOLISHED

In accordance with our late father’s last Will and Testament that his house at 38 Oxley Road be demolished, my sister and I, as the executors and trustees of the estate, believe it is only appropriate that some of his personal items of historic importance, that have been used by him at the house, be donated to the NHB for the people of Singapore who honoured him with their love and respect during our recent bereavement.
