FATAL ACCIDENT - TIPPER TRUCK RUNS OVER TWO WORKERS WHO WERE NAPPING AT MANDAI DEPOT

A 54-year-old lorry driver has been arrested after the tipper truck that he was driving ran over two men.

The accident occured at the worksite of Mandai Depot, which is part of the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). The men, both Bangladeshi workers, were napping at the construction site.

POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF MASTER WARRANT OFFICER AT STAGMONT

Police are investigating the death of a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) master warrant officer on Friday. 49 year-old MWO Jude Sebastain Vincent was found unconscious in Stagmont Camp on Friday morning and was pronounced dead about one and a half hours later in hospital. The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement on Saturday that MWO Jude Sebastian Vincent was immediately sent to the Stagmont Medical Centre.He arrived at the center at 10.35am where an SAF Medical Officer attended to him. After half an hour of emergency medical attention, MWO Vincent was then sent by an SAF ambulance to National University Hospital (NUH), where he arrived at 11.15am.

Mass fish deaths: AVA to fund 70% of re-stocking cost for affected farmers

The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) yesterday laid out how it is assisting fish farmers affected by the mass die-offs earlier this month to re-stock their farms. The AVA will source for and facilitate the bulk purchase of quality fish fry and fingerlings, said a National Development Ministry spokesperson last night. In addition, the AVA will co-fund 70 per cent of the cost of the fry and fingerlings, with farmers paying the rest.

MOE reminds schools to be vigilant about student safety after PE deaths

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued a circular to schools reminding them to stay vigilant about student safety during Physical Education lessons and co-curricular activities (CCAs), after two students died last week during PE lessons. In particular, they highlighted the need for PE teachers — including substitute teachers — to stay updated on students’ pre-existing medical conditions and said it was important to have teachers and school personnel trained and confident to carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
