During the parliament session yesterday, PAP MP Darryl David recommended that foreigners who want to become Singapore citizens must have a basic level of English proficiency and must serve a mandatory community service. He made these recommendations because he found that many new citizens could not express themselves or communicate with others because they cannot speak English. Someone pointed out to me that PAP's AMK GRC candidate - Darryl David, who's Indian by birth and is the minority candidate for the GRC, is unable to speak any Indian language. Now GRCs were 'supposedly created by PAP demi-god Lee Kuan Yew' to ensure minority representation in Parliament. This was despite the fact that minority candidates can win seats on their own. Obviously we can then safely assume that GRCs are merely a vehicle for weak and unappealing PAP candidates to enter Parliament via a backdoor.Read More »

Darryl David said that he began volunteering at Kebun Baru ward, under Inderjit Singh, since last year April. He helps out at Meet-the-People sessions and is part of the Citizens Consultative Committee there. He is also a councillor at North East Community Development Council, a position he has held for more than 6 years. He claims he joined the activities to give back to community. He told the media in response to questions on whether he would stand for elections, "I enjoy what I'm doing in Kebun Baru.
