ROY NGERNG TO PAY $150,000 DAMAGES TO PM LEE VIA INSTALLMENTS OVER 17 YEAR PERIOD

In a court hearing on 14 March 2016, lawyers representing Mr Lee Hsien Loong and Mr Roy Ngerng arrived at a settlement agreement for blogger Roy Ngerng to make payment for the damages owed to Prime Minister Lee. Under the payment settlement for $150,000 in damages, Roy Ngerng needs to pay $100 every month for the first 5 years and $1000 per month there after until the damages are repaid in full. In all, Roy Ngerng would take 17 years to pay the damages in full under this installment plan.

LEE HSIEN LOONG CALLS ROY NGERNG’S $10,000 OFFER TO SETTLE DAMAGES DERISORY

At the start of the three day hearing to assess damages, blogger Roy Ngerng took the initiative to apologise to Lee Hsien Loong. He said: "I am sorry. I had no intent to defame you". But the apology was rebuffed by PM Lee who said that the apology was "not sincere" and "the record contradicts that". The Courts also heard that on 30 May 2015, Ngerng had offered to settle the damages for a sum of S$10,000 but this was rejected by PM Lee as "derisory".

Roy Ngerng should put in his best effort to compensate PM Lee with sincerity

I think Roy Ngerng Yi Ling should make an offer on the damages demanded by the PM. Taking down the offensive post and posting an apology which has been circulated worldwide are sincere acts of admitting his mistakes. I don't think the PM who aspires to build an inclusive society is seeking an astronomical amount in compensation from Roy. So, make an offer in the best of your financial ability which is affordable to you, Roy.
