Jobless Mohamed Faizal Manokhor Ali, 35, admitted robbing the 13-year-old of his mobile phone, wallet, ezLink card and coins in a lift at Jurong West Central 1 on April 1 this year. Five other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing - including robbing three other boys of their phones. A district court heard that Faizal was loitering near Block 689 Jurong West Central 1 on April 1 when he decided to rob the youngster as he returned home from school.

PRC NATIONALS ONLY JAILED 4-YEARS AFTER CHEATED LIFE SAVINGS OF ELDERLY SINGAPOREANS

TWO Chinese nationals who conned a pair of elderly women out of their life savings with tales of evil spirits and hospitalised children were jailed for a total of more than eight years yesterday. Li Lianying, 50, and Li Peng, 45, were part of a five-member group which came to Singapore to prey on the old and vulnerable, a court heard. They cheated part-time cleaners Goh Kah Keow, 72, and Chua Peck Har, 66, of around $440,000.

15-YEAR OLD GANG RAPED BY 38 MEN

Police have detained 13 men and are looking for other suspects following allegations that a 15-year-old girl was raped by 38 men in an abandoned hut. The men took turns to rape her for hours. Police were also investigating whether her 17-year-old friend was also raped. The alleged attack, one of several brutal cases this week underscoring the violence to which women are being subjected across Asia.

RAPIST WHO RAPED 22 WOMEN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR 37.5 YEARS AND 24 STROKES

A 44-year-old serial rapist who spiked his victims' drinks with sleeping pills in an unprecedented date rape case, was expressionless as he was sentenced to 371/2 years' jail on Tuesday. Azuar Ahamad, dubbed by a prosecutor as "the worst serial rapist ever to be dealt with in Singapore", was also ordered to be given 24 strokes of the cane. Azuar committed various sexual offences against 22 women in 2008 and 2009 after getting to know them online. In 2012, he pleaded guilty to raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth. He met them for drinks at nightspots and violated them in hotels and in one case, in the victim's home. The women could not remember what happened after drinking alcoholic shots he bought for them.

JOHOR POLICE CHIEF: JB IS VERY SAFE AND S’POREANS ARE NOT BEING TARGETED FOR CRIME

Apparently, Singaporeans' concerns about JB being unsafe are misguided, according to the Johor Police Chief who said that the state is "safe beyond doubt". Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff declared that the police are in full control of the situation despite widespread belief that Johor is dangerous. He pointed to recently released statistics on crime rates in Johor saying that the number of crimes has decreased by about 10% since 2012. The rate of crime has also steadily been decreasing since 2008 with a total 36% fewer reported cases.
