DR CHEE: S’POREANS WAITING TO SEE IF POLICE TAKE ACTION AGAINST PRO-PAP WEBSITE

The public is watching how the police handle a pro-PAP website now that a report has been made against it for violating Cooling-off Day regulations during the BB by-election. This is in view of the treatment the police meted out to Teo Soh Lung, Roy Ngerng and The Independent when the ELD filed similar reports. For now the PAP government may ignore the Constitution and act with impunity on political matters. But every time it shows contempt for the rule of law, it drives another nail into the coffin that carries public confidence in government institutions.

POLICE TOLD TEO SOH LUNG TO RETRIEVE ITEMS CONFISCATED DURING RAID BUT REFUSE TO LET HER BRING PHONE & DIDN’T RETURN HER IC

From what Soh Lung said on her Facebook, the police only told her that she needed to go back today to collect the devices that they seized from her last week. Soh Lung had said: "I don't know if the police have another trick up their sleeves. It is hard to trust them. But what can I do except to be prepared for the worst to happen? I may be subjected to another round of interrogation, threats and perhaps arrested. I don't know." She was right. When she got to the police station just now, the police would not let her bring her phone and powerbank up with her to the supposed "appointment". It did not feel like an appointment. It felt like a trap. They wanted to interrogate her further but pretended that it was only about letting her collect her devices. It was clear the police was up to something. They did not want her to bring her phone so that she would be trapped and could not contact anyone. The police wanted to keep her from contacting anyone so that they could intimidate her further.

WHY IS THERE A MEDIA BLACKOUT ON POLICE’S HARASSMENT OF ROY NGERNG & TEO SOH LUNG?

This should surprise no one, but there is total silence in the state media on yesterday's egregious police harassment of Roy Ngerng and Teo Soh Lung. People said of Benjamin Lim, "But there've been so many investigations, and he's the only one where this happened!" Well, he's the only one you know of, because the state media is worse than useless on questions of civil liberties and due process. And you know about him only because TOC forced their hand. People scoffed, "This is Singapore; cover-ups don't happen!" Which gets it exactly backwards. This is Singapore, and the cover-up is so complete you don't even notice.

ROY NGERNG: I FELT RAPED BY THE POLICE, AM I AN UNFILIAL USELESS SON?

When I left the police station, I did not know what to feel. I was reminded of what a PAP MP shared on his Facebook - democracy is like gang rape in action. I felt raped. I felt raped when the police surrounded me to raid my home. I felt raped when they did not let me speak to my friends. I felt raped when the police searched all my devices and accounts in front of me. I felt like I was stripped and searched. I lost my dignity, even as I tried hard to maintain it.

LAWYER REMY CHOO: WHY THE EXTREME POLICE ACTION TAKEN FOR COOLING DAY OFFENCES?

I arrived at Soh Lung Teo's house today at about 2.20 p.m. while 7 - 8 police officers were in the midst of seizing her handphone, desktop and laptop. I asked the IO, Angie Ng, why the police had to seize her electronic devices given that Soh Lung was not disputing the publication of the articles on her personal Facebook page on cooling off day. I was disappointed with the police action. The seizure of a person's electronic devices is gravely disruptive to their personal lives, and the these devices contain large amounts of personal private data irrelevant to the investigation.

POLICE ARRESTS ROY NGERNG FOR COOLING DAY OFFENCE, SEARCH HIS HOME FOR 3 HRS

Roy Ngerng Yiling and Teo Soh Lung are now being extensively investigated for their alleged offence for posting posts on their Facebook account during the recent Bukit Batok By-election Cooling Off Day. The Election Department had earlier filed police reports against the two individuals for allegedly violating the parliament election act, by posting posts that promote candidates on cooling off day.

STRANGE FOR LINA CHIAM’S STATEMENT TO BE RELEASED ON COOLING DAY?

It is very strange for Mrs Lina Chiam to issue this statement at this stage of the by-election. This is the second time that she has done so. The timing of the above article is also impeccable. On cooling-off day, no less; which makes it seem more intentional than coincidental. I further question Dr Da Cunha’s and the reporter’s very sensationalised way of presenting the information.
