A netizen has created a petition demanding that temples and columbariums where Chinese ancestors and family members are buried allow worshipers to burn joss paper offerings during Qing Ming Festival and the Chinese Ghost Month (7th Month).

KHAW BOON WAN: I THOUGHT LIFECORP WAS AFFILIATED WITH RELIGIOUS ORGANISATION

In Parliament today (29 Jan), National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan revealed that until the recent case in Sengkang, the Government had never awarded a place-of-worship site to a company that was not affiliated to a religious organisation. “We now understand that the winning tenderer for this site, Eternal Pure Land, is actually a private company without any religious affiliation,” he said.

FERNVALE RESIDENTS: WE EXPECT HDB TO REFUND BACK OUR DEPOSITS

We believe that if there were information which could help HDB to fetch a better price for the BTOs (eg. Mall, LRT stations, amenities etc), HDB would surely have put them up prominently and affirmatively. We expect HDB to do likewise for information (eg. Columbarium) that may make the flats less attractive to most buyers and thus, fetch lower prices for HDB. These are not “isolated cases” but happened in a massive scale. Thus, we feel that HDB should not treat our demand for refund without other penalties as a case by case basis. HDB should be more transparent and fair in dealing with all those who wanted a full refund.

COMMERICIAL ORGANISATION IS COMMITTED TO RUN CHINESE TEMPLE

THE company that is planning to build a columbarium in Fernvale Link has affirmed its commitment to running a Chinese temple at the site to serve the community, the authorities said yesterday. In a statement yesterday, the Housing Board and Urban Redevelopment Authority said that the company must adhere strictly to the tender conditions and preserve the intent of the site as a Chinese temple.
