CHEE SOON JUAN: S’POREANS SHOULD NOT LET FEAR AND LACK OF INFORMATION CONTROL US

Many factors have been proffered for the results of the recently held general elections: the impact of new citizens as a voting bloc, the fidelity to the memory of the late Lee Kuan Yew, the lingering effulgence from the SG50 celebrations, the fear of the PAP being inadvertently voted out of power, and the spectre of external threats to our national security all played in the minds of the voters as the walked into the polling stations.

CHEE SOON JUAN: MAKE SURE THE PAP GETS IT PRIORITIES RIGHT!

In the Singapore Democratic Party's CBD lunch time rally today, Dr Chee Soon Juan called on Singaporeans to check the People's Action Party and stop it from doing as it pleases by voting their candidates into parliament. Speaking about the failed investments by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and investment company Temasek Holdings, Dr Chee said that without an opposition to check on the PAP, the government "does as it pleases, making dangerous, wrong decisions without proper scrutiny and accountability."

Even as an ex-educator, at first read, it seems to make sense, but with deeper thought, it does not. Hence I felt the need to share my thoughts with those around me.

DR CHEE SOON JUAN: I WILL GIVE YOU A REASON TO VOTE FOR THE SDP

Through the last quarter of a century, I have been on the receiving end of PAP’s vitriol. It started off with Mr Lee Kuan Yew calling me all manner of epithets such as “gangster” and “congenital liar”. The second prime minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong, openly mused about having me “annihilated”. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong jumped in, dismissing me as a "liar" and “deceitful” person. All three sued me for defamation. That was a long time ago. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to taking part in the hustings again after an absence of almost 15 years.
