CHEE SOON JUAN: WHY IS SHANMUGAM SILENT ABOUT BENJAMIN LIM’S DEATH?

In October last year, a 4-year-old boy fell to his death from an open window that had no grilles. Back then, Mr K Shanmugam spoke up very promptly, writing on his Facebook. Mr Shanmugam was angry – and justifiably so. Still, his aggressive tone was surprising. After all, he didn't possess, at least at the time he wrote his post, all the facts pertaining to the episode.

WHY DID SDP CEC VOTE IN POLITICAL LIGHTWEIGHT WONG AS SDP CHAIRMAN?

During GE2015, I was enthralled with the resurgent SDP, an SDP who had credible, knowledgable and professional candidates to stand for elections. People like Dr Paul Tambyah or Mr Damanhuri Abbas who clearly knew their stuff. Dr Paul is a potential Health Minister waiting in the wings while Mr Abbas understands the concerns of the Malay community at the back of his palm. I have to be frank, when it was revealed that Ms Wong was elected as SDP's second in command, I was puzzled. No disrespect to her but when compared to candidates like Dr Paul and Mr Damanhuri, she is a political lightweight who has little weight to carry a team on her own.

CHEE SOON JUAN: PAP HAS MADE SINGAPOREANS FEARFUL OF CHANGE

In my numerous conversations with Singaporeans in the aftermath of the recently held general elections, it was apparent that fear played a significant role in the outcome. Voters expressed fear at the various stages and aspects of the electoral process: They got cold feet about casting their votes for the opposition when they heard their names and NRIC numbers called out loud just before they walked to the booths to mark their crosses; many indicated that they voted for the PAP because of the “freak election” scare; others were nervous about the shaky economy and voted for the ruling party so as not to worsen the situation; civil servants said they were afraid of losing their jobs if they didn't cast their ballot for the incumbent; and there were those who were nervous about the alternative ideas that the opposition championed.

DR CHEE: PM LEE FAILED TO EXPLAIN 5 MONTHS DELAY IN HEPATITIS C OUTBREAK

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recently commented on the hepatitis C scandal, saying that “we also always have to be open and transparent with the public and with the patients about what has happened because we must maintain public confidence, and trust in the healthcare system.” Undoubtedly. Mr Lee, however, omitted that there must also be trust in the political system to ensure the safety of the people. He failed to mention that the Infectious Disease Act (IDA) mandates that infectious diseases be promptly reported to Ministry of Health (MOH).

CHEE SOON JUAN: S’POREANS SHOULD NOT LET FEAR AND LACK OF INFORMATION CONTROL US

Many factors have been proffered for the results of the recently held general elections: the impact of new citizens as a voting bloc, the fidelity to the memory of the late Lee Kuan Yew, the lingering effulgence from the SG50 celebrations, the fear of the PAP being inadvertently voted out of power, and the spectre of external threats to our national security all played in the minds of the voters as the walked into the polling stations.

CHEE SOON JUAN: MAKE SURE THE PAP GETS IT PRIORITIES RIGHT!

In the Singapore Democratic Party's CBD lunch time rally today, Dr Chee Soon Juan called on Singaporeans to check the People's Action Party and stop it from doing as it pleases by voting their candidates into parliament. Speaking about the failed investments by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and investment company Temasek Holdings, Dr Chee said that without an opposition to check on the PAP, the government "does as it pleases, making dangerous, wrong decisions without proper scrutiny and accountability."

DR CHEE SOON JUAN – YOU ARE A TRUE PATRIOT

I'm glad I've had a chance to listen to you speak finally. Your speeches were the only ones in the run-up to the elections thus far that have moved me. Thank you for giving up your youth, for the sacrifices you have made in your personal life, for enduring a prison term, bankruptcy and defamation and not upping and leaving.

5 QUESTIONS DR CHEE HAS TO ANSWER WITH HONESTY BEFORE I GIVE HIM MY VOTE

After fifteen years in the political wilderness, Dr Chee Soon Juan made his comeback and boy did he awe the audience with his silky smooth public speaking skills. It made the days of him blabbering unsubstantiated accusations and pencant for civil disobedience look like something from his distant past. In recent years, Dr Chee has carefully cultivated his new image. He always watched what he said, he toed the line and refrained from getting into trouble with the law. All these are a good start to something beautiful but as a voter concerned with my future, I still hope Dr Chee can address these questions to seal the deal with me.
