MOTORCYCLE COE PREMIUMS RACING UPWARDS, JUMPS $600 FROM LAST RECORD HIGH

Motorcycle Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums have jumped $600 in the last bidding exercise, a new record high compared to the $7,483 quoted in the previous exercise. COE prices for cars have also risen, with Category A premiums rising nearly $1000 from $50,789 to $51,765 since the previous bidding exercise. Category B premiums rose from $53,300 last month to $54,000 in this exercise.

COE FOR CARS ON THE RISE AGAIN

Category A cars (1600cc and below) closed at S$57,498, up from S$56,209 from 2 weeks ago. Category B cars (1600cc and above) rose to S$62,140, from S$60,789. Open category COEs, which can be used for any vehicle type, rose to S$61,001 from S$57,885.

COE PRICES TO REMAIN HIGH DUE TO HUGE BACKLOG OF ORDERS

Despite the sharp rise in the COE quota for the next three months, COE premiums are still going at exorbitant prices and are likely to remain high. There will not likely be any drop in premiums in future bidding exercises, according to analysts and motor dealers. They say that there is a huge backlog of orders, many from owners of deregistered cars waiting for COE premiums to fall.

CAR COE PRICES ROCKET UP AGAIN

Premiums for motorcycles broke through the S$6,000 mark, closing at a record high of S$6,312. COE prices for the Open Category (used for any vehicle type) rose 8% from S$72,100 to S$78,000. Premiums for big cars in Category B (Cars above 1600cc or 97kW) climbed by 6.6% to S$76,612. Small car premiums in Category A (up to 1600cc & 97kW) increased 4.7% to S$67,749.
