CAR COE PRICES ROCKET UP AGAIN

Premiums for motorcycles broke through the S$6,000 mark, closing at a record high of S$6,312. COE prices for the Open Category (used for any vehicle type) rose 8% from S$72,100 to S$78,000. Premiums for big cars in Category B (Cars above 1600cc or 97kW) climbed by 6.6% to S$76,612. Small car premiums in Category A (up to 1600cc & 97kW) increased 4.7% to S$67,749.

COES PRICES, ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL CARS, ROSE SHARPLY AGAIN

Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rose sharply yesterday, with small cars registering the greatest increases. Dealers explain that the increases were probably caused by 3-year low COE premiums for small cars in last month's exercise, as well as a surge in demand for small cars because of discounts offered by dealers during the Chinese New Year period.

COE PREMIUMS RISE ACROSS THE BOARD AGAIN

Certificates of entitlement (COEs) ended higher across the board at the latest tender Wednesday, driven by new model launches in recent weeks. COE for cars up to 1,600cc and 130bhp finished at $64,600, up from $62,890 two weeks ago. COE for cars above 1,600cc or 130bhp closed at $68,689, up from $65,001.

COE FALLING: TIME TO BUY A CAR IN SINGAPORE?

The last time you could purchase a car for less than 100 big ones in Singapore was about three years ago, when Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums were hovering around the $50,000 mark, and heading onwards and upwards onto a trajectory that saw it almost reach double that figure over the next couple of years. But with COE quotas having increased in the past couple of months, we are starting to see prices starting to dip again, with Category A COE premiums currently sitting in the lower $60,000 band. As a result, we are once again seeing the prices of some cars falling below the psychological $100,000 barrier, and no longer will one have to fork out six figures just to purchase the most basic of rides.

Consumer complaints hit record level high in 2013: CASE

Complaints to the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) soared to a record high last year, the watchdog group said today (Jan 30). A total of 29,254 complaints were filed with CASE last year, up 13.7 per cent from the 25,733 recorded in 2012. CASE helped consumers recover S$2,356,072.70 in the successfully resolution of 77.5 per cent of the cases it handled last year, up from the 75.5 per cent rate the year before.
