HYPOCRITE MEDIA LITERACY COUNCIL PREACHES FOR BETTER INTERNET BUT CONDONES HATE SPEECH BY CALVIN CHENG?

The Better Internet movement by the media literacy council can be seen as one of the greatest acts of hypocrisy this year. Public figures giving speeches that contrasts their actual behaviour, are not the least bit uncommon in Singapore. But this one is the true champion of hypocrisy. Calvin Cheng is like the biggest producer of hate speech in Singapore. First he called for the ISA to be acted on Alfian Sa’at, implying him to be a terrorist. Then he called for the children of terrorists to be killed. The MLC refused to remove Calvin Cheng from the council. They might as well be endorsing his behavior.

EX-NMP CALVIN CHENG: MAKING PERSONAL ATTACKS IS PART OF GOOD POLITICS

After a police report was made against PAP lackey and ex-NMP Calvin Cheng for making comments in support of killing children of terrorists last month, it seems he's back with more foot-in-his-mouth comments, this time in support of making personal attacks in the name of good politics. Is he trying to justify the PAP's low brow tactics of making personal attacks against opposition politicians during the last GE? The PAP and their supporters seem to take pleasure in taking personal digs at opposition politicians, but when the same is done onto them like when a WP supporter supposedly insulted Minister Shanmugam when he referred to him as a "barking dog", the PAP cannot take it and say that the action is WP sanctioned and called such personal attacks "disappointing" and "vile".

MEDIA LITERACY COUNCIL: CALVIN CHENG’S COMMENTS INSENSITIVE, NOT HATE SPEECH

Although Mr Cheng did not in my view engage in hate speech, as a member of the Council he has to visibly uphold the values that the Council espouses. In this instance, his comments were insensitive and therefore inappropriate for a member of the MLC. I have spoken to Mr Cheng and counselled him that as a member of the Council he will be held to and judged by a higher standard compared to a private citizen.

COUNCIL OF EX-MUSLIMS: CALVIN CHENG’S COMMENTS ARE WRONG

Here at CEMSG, Council of Ex-Muslims of Singapore, we're living proof that children do not adhere to the religion their parents adhere to. If something as strong as filial obligation to religion can be cast aside by the children of religious parents, what makes you think extremist ideology is impossible?

EX-NMP CALVIN CHENG: ISRAEL HAS RIGHT TO DEFEND ITSELF, PALESTINE DOES NOT EXIST

Calvin Cheng called for children to be killed, saying that people should take the lead from Israel (which is well-known for 'accidentally' killing children in the ongoing conflict with Palestinians) Calvin Cheng openly sided the Jews, saying that the United Nations is a corrupt, useless organization and that the Jews and the US have been trying hard to educate the world that Palestine does not exist.

CALVIN CHENG: I AM DISTRAUGHT MINISTER LUI TUCK YEW IS STEPPING DOWN

I am distraught that Minister Lui Tuck Yew is stepping down. I have known Mr. Lui since I was an 18 year old JC student when as a LTC in the Navy, he mentored me for the Temasek Seminar. He was very patient with me and taught me a lot, despite his busy schedule. Mr. Lui is kind, humorous and does not not have a single bad bone in him. He also possesses a first-class mind.

ALFIAN SAAT TO SUE PAP SUPPORTER CALVIN CHENG IF HE DOES NOT REMOVE DEFAMATORY POSTING

On his Facebook, Cheng wrote that Singapore has to be careful of the threat of ISIS propaganda as ISIS targets regions where Muslims are minorities, using their insecurities and fears of being oppressed to incite these communities to violence. But in a sudden leap of logic, Cheng then suddenly accuses "people like Alfian Sa'at" of using "irresponsible rhetoric" to "allege racial discrimination" against the Malay-Muslims in Singapore, and argues that the government should watch Alfian Sa'at and others like him closely, or even use the ISA against them if they cross any "red lines".

WE DO NOT WANT CONFRONTATIONAL LGBT ACTIVISM IN SINGAPORE

Much as I disagree with Khong's beliefs, we do not want the divisive Western culture wars to start in Singapore. As a society that values social harmony, there are better ways to ensure LGBTs do not get discriminated than the confrontational approaches that have divided American society. We will find our own way. And it shall not be the destructive way that foreign lobby groups and their local stooges favour.
