REPORTS ON TUAS MRT EXTENSION ALL POSITIVE, SO EXPECT DELAYS SOON

Today is the first day of the official running of the Tuas MRT extension line on a weekday morning. And based on news reports, the running of the line was smooth, with no breakdowns. The extension, which opened on Sunday, got it's first weekday test today, and so far, it's all positive. But, as per other train breakdowns previously, they were always preceded by news reports of how well the trains have been run, and how the breakdowns have stopped. Once they report something good, then some sort of train breakdowns or delays will happen. So, lets hope this reports trumpeting the success of the Tuas extension will not lead to bad karma. The 100,000 or so commuters expected to use the four new stations on the line have waited long enough for this.

NEW EXTENSION OF DOWNTOWN LINE TO BE RIGOROUSLY TESTED BEFORE OPENING, BREAKDOWNS UNACCEPTABLE

With this extensive testing, and with the line expected to fully open by the end of the year, let's hope this line does not suffer the same amount of breakdown as its predecessors on the other lines. For a new MRT line, it does not make sense for it to suffer breakdowns so soon after the opening. This is a brand new MRT line, breakdowns should not be an issue.

SMRT SAYS THEIR NORTH -SOUTH AND CIRCLE LINE IMPROVING

SMRT has released its report on their train performances and indicated that The reliability of the North-South (NSL) and Circle MRT Lines (CCL) has seen a marked improvement in the year up to Q1, while the East-West Line (EWL) has maintained its current level of performance. So, breakdowns are still happening, but at a shorter rate, and less of them are happening. That is a marked improvement, and SMRT must go and report and hope the public clap for them. Actually, if breakdowns still occur, don't even need to talk about improvement in performance. People will always remember the MRT trains for another breakdown that causes them to be late for work or school.

MRT CAN MOVE AT FASTER SPEED LIKE LAST TIME. MORE BREAKDOWNS?

LTA has just announced that the speed limit for the MRT trains on the East West line will be increased back to 80kmh, back to the normal speed before the works for the sleeper replacement project commenced. Now that the works are over, the MRT trains can move back up to a faster speed. Maybe this will help finally to ease the congestion on the trains every morning, as people rush off to work. But, with the spate of latest breakdowns that has tarnished the MRT image for the past five years, hopefully the higher speeds does not mean more breakdowns coming our way.
