COVID19: Sheng Siong Supermarket “Spoils Market” for NTUC FairPrice

Sheng Siong supermarket is truly impressive. After announcing an additional one month salary for its employees, it went around neighbourhoods silently giving donations at wakes out of kindness. This is setting the bar way too high for competitor NTUC FairPrice supermarket which is already being accused of raising its prices during COVID-19.

THE MORE MC YOU TAKE, THE LESS $$$ INCENTIVE YOU GET

Some firms give workers with good attendance monetary rewards, and most review medical leave records during appraisals, which can affect bonuses. This will definitely weed out those who take MCs just for the sake of taking one, even when not really sick, because they are lazy to go to work on certain days. But what if you are really a sickly person, or someone who falls sick easily? You might be workign hard, or even harder than most on the days you are at work, but unfortunately, you fall sick easier, and thus, more MCs taken.

WHY SOME CIVIL SERVANTS GET MORE BONUSES THAN OTHERS WITH SAME PERFORMANCE GRADES?

In Civil Service, we have different ministries and Stat. Boards. Our bonuses for mid-year and end-year are pegged to the economy and we get the same rate. However, I am puzzled as to why our Performance Bonus are of a different rate. A 'C' grade in MINDEF can get an officer 3 to 3.5 months for bonuses, whereas in MOE it is only worth 1.5 to 2 months. I understand that job scope if different, but it is already differentiate via the salary system.

SG50 BONUS: GOVT IS LIKE PARENT SHOWING FAVOURITISM TOWARDS SOME CHILDREN

What I am not happy about, is why the government is lavishing Singaporean taxpayers’ money on just civil servants alone, and not all Singaporeans. Do we not contribute to Singapore’s growth, even though we work hard in the private sector? Since this is a one-off SG50 bonus, shouldn’t we receive it too since we are all Singaporeans? What I don’t like is being marginalised as a Singaporean. It’s like a father giving his elder daughter a dollar to go to NTUC and buy a soft drink, while his younger daughter receives nothing.

IS THE $500 SG50 BONUS ENOUGH TO SWING YOU OVER TO THE PAP?

The PAP is sparing no expense to buy votes and win the next GE under the guise of celebrating S'pore's jubilee year. If S'poreans vote for them again because of this $500, it would be akin to taking the money and slapping themselves because this political model is just not sustainable.

WHY “LAZY” CIVIL SERVANTS GET $500 BONUS BUT OTHER HARDWORKING S’POREANS GET NOTHING?

The government yesterday announced this sudden SG50 bonus for 84,000 civil servants. As many will know, civil servants are just cannot make it people who choose to have an iron rice bowl. They don't need to slog like us out in the real world but yet they still get rewarded with $500 for no good reason! What about other Singaporeans like us? We don't deserve this bonus because we not willing to be a government dogs?

YOUR 13 MONTH BONUS IS NOT A BONUS, ITS WHAT YOUR COMPANY OWES YOU

The fact is that Singapore employers hold 29 days of your pay over the year and could refuse to pay you your rightful money if you did not 'perform'. Even if they do it, that meant many employees in Singapore did not get any bonuses from their companies at all. The 13th month is your pay. It is Not a bonus! In reality, if they pay us back the '13th month bonus', they employer still owe us 1 day's wages (29 - 28) and get away with it year after year, decade after decade. If you leave the company before the year is up your '13th month bonus' is forfeited instead of pro-rated. That's robbery.
