EDMW FORUM MODS LOVE AH TIONGS, BAN S’POREAN USERS FOR USING DEROGATORY “ATBCPJHJ”

Last week, something big happened at what is probably the biggest casual subforums in Singapore, EDMW. Sudden enforcing of strict rules and moderation by HWZ admin was met with strong resistance from users, some of whom have been using the site for almost two decades. Users started getting banned for a term they had always been using. Subsequently, moderators started sweeping the subforum and banning users indiscriminately lead by "Dragon", believed to be female. Even users who were toeing the line were caught in the cross-fire.

NEA BANS SALE OF RAW FRESHWATER FISH AT ALL FOOT OUTLETS

The National Environment Agency or NEA announced a blanket ban on the serving of raw freshwater fish by any food outlet with immediate effect. Food stalls include hawker centres, coffee shops, food courts and canteens. Restaurants are exempted from this ban as they generally observe hygiene standards and source fish from suppliers who deal with fish intended for raw consumption.

Islam allegedly forbids Muslims from playing musical instruments like guitar, piano or trumpets as they go against the hadiths, a religious scholar said today. In his paper on Islam and entertainment presented at a national forum here, Abdul Raof Nurin said the Shafie stream of Islam only allows Muslims to listen to music that touches on love for the religion, and urged those who want to play musical instruments to preferably stick to the gong or kompang.

FRENCH MAYOR CALLS FOR ISLAM TO BE BANNED IN FRANCE

A French mayor has been suspended from his party after calling for the country to ban Islam. Robert Chardon, the UMP mayor of Venelles in southern France, tweeted: “The Muslim religion must be banned in France” and added that anyone practising the religion must be “immediately escorted to the border”.

GRACE FU: GOVT INTENDS TO BAN SMOKING IN SINGAPORE EVENTUALLY

Smoking could be banned in more locations in the near future if a consultation held on Saturday (Apr 18) between the Government and some stakeholders is any indication. Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu said the Government is mulling over its "next steps" even as it eventually moves toward a smoke-free Singapore. However, she said policies must be balanced between smoking's impact on non-smokers and accommodating the needs of smokers.
