VETERAN ATHLETICS COACH ACCUSED OF MOLEST

The recent spate of molest cases sees no chance of dying down, with yet another high profile molest case being brought before the courts today. In the latest case, veteran track and field coach Loh Chan Pew has been charged with five counts of outrage of modesty. The 72 year old, who is also vice-president (competitions organising) of Singapore Athletics (SA), the sport's local governing body, was charged in court on Thursday, all with the alleged use of criminal force. The incidents took place between late 2011 to March 2013. In each of these charges, Loh was accused of using criminal force and rubbed the victims' genitals. The two victims were aged 16 and 18 at the time of the incidents.

SINGAPORE ATHLETICS TURN FOR POWER STRUGGLE

After the joke that was the FAS Presidential elections, another new saga in Singapore's sport scene is brewing. Apparently, Singapore Athletics plans to hold an EOGM, where the current president, Ho Mun Cheong, is planning to remove several members of the national sports association's management committee (MC) at a snap election tomorrow, may be unconstitutional. SportsSG's chief executive Lim Teck Yin, handed a letter to the contesting parties that the motions proposed for the EOGM, which includes the removing of the MC members are unconstitutional, as for them to be removed, they need to have been absent from three consecutive meetings without explanation, has inadequately discharged his duties, or acted against the character of SA. The opposing camp alleges that the current president had not proven that all of the 26 members of the MC had fallen foul of the guidelines, and thus, has no grounds to call for their removal.

PRC ATHLETE SUE SINGAPORE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION FOR $500,000 COMPENSATION

Was your son in Singapore to undergo full-time training or part-time training? This was the question posed to Madam Zhang Ping, 54, whose son, China-born athlete Luan Wei, is suing the Singapore Athletic Association (SAA) for breaching promises made in a 1999 agreement. This question took up more than a third of Madam Zhang's cross-examination by SAA's lawyer, Senior Counsel Giam Chin Toon, yesterday. One of the alleged promises was that the SAA would provide Mr Luan with English tuition and arrange for him to attend school in Singapore,or train and attend school in China.
