SINGAPORE ARMED FORCES MUST RESTORE THE BUDDY SYSTEM!

I wouldn't quite agree on this one. While saf might scrap ''buddy system'' 1 day, I still think buddy system should be strongly encouraged throughout national service, provided both buddies have a certain distance of respect for each other's privacy while still looking out for each other. That's a clear line. One day if you go field camp, training, route marches, or any other operations or exercises, don't tell me you want to act individually? You still need your buddy to look out for you and vice versa. You're not a ''1 man clearing force''. If this is buddy system is not enforce, one day some soldiers might become individualist.

SINGAPORE ARMED FORCES SCRAPS BUDDY SYSTEM WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has announced it has removed the "buddy system" from its combat doctrine with effect from today (10 July). In a press statement to the media, SAF spokesperson reiterated they are constantly reviewing its training procedures to ensure the SAF is "keeping up with the times". WHAT’S WRONG WITH NATIONAL SERVICE IN SINGAPORE?

The point I’m trying to make is that the National Service system severely disrupts the lives of civilians who fail an annual physical fitness test, by increasing their obligation to National Service by almost 4 times! That’s harsh and I would argue unjust. It does not take into account the record of service or the original expectation of our supposed duty to the country. I’ve probably spent more time trying to pass this damn test than actually being a military reserve for the SAF. So I ask, is that fair? Is this how you acknowledge your supposed “Sons of Singapore”? Those of us who fail the annual physical fitness test might be a minority, but we’ve also fulfilled the SAME obligations as every body else, and anything more is a punishment. Scrap the remedial training program altogether. As a deterrent it is unacceptable to my rights as a citizen.

NSMEN IN UNIFORM SHOULD STAND IN CROWDED TRAINS

There were three occasions when I witnessed our Servicemen in their “pixelated un-camouflage” uniform behaving in a disgusting manner on our train. I need to add that there are more well-behaving Servicemen who would ride their journey standing. The various Armed Forces Chiefs need to re-instill pride, good bearing and decorum to their men. Or do they want me to give that pep talk on their behalf?

Q&A WITH DEFENCE MINISTER NG ENG HEN

I'm race-neutral... If you believe in the defence of Singapore, we want you, whatever the colour of your skin. While others have encouraged (the senior) Malay commanders to step forward (and be identified as Malay), some of them have been reluctant to do so. They say: "Why should I do it? Because, you know, I'm put in this position, not because I'm a Malay, so why should I come out as a Malay?" I will respect that but neither am I discouraging them from coming out to say so.

CHAO KENG GOD: HOW I FORCED SAF TO RELEASE ME FROM SERVING NS

"Hello people, I would like to share my PES F story. Before I start, here is to the people who say people who chao keng are pussies, hum ji, ball-less, etc. Not everyone is suited for the military. Not everyone is made for getting shouted at by sadistic superiors. For my case, I decided that NS pay of $480 was not going to cover my housing rent, my car installment, my food and my other expenses. I was not going to give up my freedom for a national duty.

MALAYS CAN USE NAVY MACHINE GUNS

Similarly, Lance Corporal (LCP) Iqmal Faiz felt that [email protected] was a meaningful event as it "broadened the mindset of the general public" to what the Navy does in general. The weapon specialist from LST RSS Resolution was in charge of briefing the public on the CIS 50 machine gun. As it was his first time briefing the public, he got off to a rather nerve-wracking start. However, the 22-year-old eventually got the hang of it.

More monetary awards expected for NSmen

National Servicemen could get higher sums under changes proposed to the National Service Recognition Award (NSRA). The Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS) has recommended disbursing S$2,000 extra, in Medisave grants, at each of the three “milestones” an NSmen reaches, under a proposed NS HOME (Housing, Medical and Education) Awards that will replace the NSRA.

Maintaining a relationship while serving NS

Going through NS myself, I’ve heard many stories about how a guy falls out of love due to his commitment to national service. There are cases where it turns out to be good, where the guy strives for his best and focuses on sharing his love with his brothers around. There is also the flip side where the poor fella emo (becomes emotional) for a few days and starts doing silly stuff. The top few worries that an attached enlistee will have is definitely his relationship.
