HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANISATION: DON’T PUT BARRICADES AT PINK DOT, YOU ARE SUPPRESSING ACTIVISM

Amnesty International, which campaigns for human rights, published a statement on Singapore's restrictions to this year's Pink Dot. It asked the authorities to revoke the idea of putting barricades at the Speaker's Corner and claims it is an attempt to suppress activism. "Amnesty International calls on the Singaporean authorities to respect and protect the right to peaceful assembly and ensure that they work to facilitate peaceful demonstrations instead of creating more restrictions to silence communities, or their critics." AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: RELEASE PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE AMOS YEE NOW

The Singapore authorities must immediately and unconditionally release teenager Amos Yee, who is facing a minimum of 18 months of reformative training after criticising the late Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew online. Amnesty International considers him to be a prisoner of conscience, held solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression. As he is a minor, authorities must also ensure that his treatment is consistent with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to which Singapore is a State party.
