Govt Acts Tough Against Aljunied TC, But Remains Deafeningly Silent On Bukit Batok TC

The government’s response to the Bukit Batok fire has been deafeningly silent, despite clear evidence of gross negligence on the part of the town council in failing to ensure fire safety regulations were followed. Attempting to shift responsibility to the contractor does not diminish the town council’s culpability. One can only imagine the ruling party’s reaction had the fire taken place in Aljunied-Hougang Town Council.

SYLVIA LIM: WP IS READY TO TAKE ON ANOTHER TOWN COUNCIL

While refuting the Ministry of National Development's (MND) assertion about AHPETC hugely overpaying the town council's managing agent FMSS, Workers' Party (WP) chairman Sylvia Lim say that they have emerge stronger from this episode and ready to take on another town council. During the wide-ranging interview at her Toh Tuck Road apartment, Ms Lim defended her town council's performance, and its decision not to dig into the books of its managing agent, FM Solutions and Services (FMSS). "I do not think that we have let the voters down," she said. "The town council has done more than enough to account for whatever lapses that the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) has pointed out."
